I have a 5 volt PS-2 engine that was working fine on Monday, running without trouble. I put it on the charger overnight and was surprised to find it non-responsive, showing a "Loco not on track" message. I put in a new "old stock" MTH ni-cad battery. Charged it for 16 hours. No Joy! Same message.
Any suggestions? I have a BCR, should I install that? Is this a battery issue? I just finished running a MTH PS-2 steam engine with no problem whatever on the same track that the diesel sulks on. Advice is most welcome! Yard Bull |

When you say that you put in a new old stock battery did you charge it? It may have been sitting around so long that it needs a charge. You can try the BCR it should work as long as it is a 5 volt BCR. Also what happens if you try to run it in conventional?

gOLFER:
It ran with no problem in conventional. After installing the new battery, I charged it for about 18 hours with the MTH PS-2 charger. Should have been a full charge. The battery in the 5 volt older PS-2 engines is the classic and despised 8.4 volt (looks like a 9v transistor battery) ni-cad used in all the Proto one engines. The one I had in my tool kit came with the MTH Protosound "fix-it" kit that came with a chip puller and the fix proto sound chip. It may be no good. That makes me think that the trusty BCR that I have left over from my Proto one engines would sub nicely for that item. The would charge up to full power after about 30 seconds on an 18volt track. Again, advice is welcome! YB |

While it should have been fully charged if it went bad sitting around for several years the battery may not have held the charge. I'd try a new battery. The BCR should work my only question about them since I have never tried one is if you add an engine in DCS with a bad battery after you shut it off you have to re-add each time until you replace the battery. With the BCR they say you have to charge them each time for 30 seconds. Do they hold enough power to not have the engine lose it's ID?

I don't know either but Delete the engine from the remote and try and add it back for starters. Good luck. |

The BCR is a good tool for Proto-One, it should work great on 18 volt track. I will try the recommendation of deleting the engine and adding it again. Thanks for the tip. YB

VaGolfer and Gregg:
You guys are good. Deleted the engine as you suggested and re-added it to the remote. Joy! All works well and I have a new, fully charged battery in the engine. Didn't need to use the BCR. CSX 5014 is ready to take my next coal drag over the hill! Help most appreciated, thanks! Yard Bull |
