I guess by what you say that you know that you must ring the bell for at least 3 seconds to turn the feature (and station or freight sounds) on. Once it is on, most engines have a precise voltage setting, usually around 14V, at which the squealing brakes will randomly sound on the layout. Hugh All the best, Hugh |

Yes, Hugh thanks, it is definitely "qued" up to sound, just no sound.I have many proto 1 and 2 engines and all of a sudden that sound just disappeared on my coal turbine engine. it did the same on my RI E-8 but MTH took it in and fixed it and it works fine to this day.

Hey Hugh, I'm looking at my old QSI manual and it mentioned the method you described, You have to arm the sounds each time you want to hear the brakes.
It shows feature 45 as... once you enter feature 45 and press the horn button.. 1 ding= brakes off completely 2 dings= brakes arm enabled ( the one you described) 3 dings= brakes always Squealing brakes will sound every time your engine reaches a speed (about 14v) and then comes to a stop. Whether this applies to a ps1 board I don't know, Feature 46 is almost identical but with flange sounds |

My (MTH) manual shows brake sounds always on at 2 dings ---always off at 3 dings---one ding have brake sounds only when FYS enabled. I'm in the two ding mode but I have reset to factory default of 3 clanks 3 clinks also
