I'm going to be updating our 2 TIU's for the first time. Can someone please point me to a thread or other info on the net on how to update and the pitfalls to avoid. I'm taking both the TIU's and the handsets from 4.01 which has been flaky for us, dropping engines, to the latest patch. Using a laptop with the Radio Shack 26-183 cable. Our last fiasco was we had everything working on our large layout (2) remotes, 6 proto2 engines, TMCC via interface cable to TIU, all working. Then out of nowhere all the DCS engines came up as not on track. We quit for the night. Came back next day, all the DCS engines were in the inactive file, and we couldn't get them out. This is for a display layout and we can't rely on the DCS. For tomorrow were are going to run TMCC through the Cab-1's and then update the TIU's offline. Thanks for any advice and pointers to threads or links. Dave & Crew.

Hi Dave,

Here's the DCS Loader Tutorial.

With the adapter you're using you shouldn't have too many problems. Just be sure to READ THE ON SCREEN INSTRUCTIONS! It's very important that power and the different cables be applied in the precise order that is called for on the Loader's instructions.

Double check that the cables you are using actually meet the requirements. The telephone handset cord MUST have four wires, not just two. The 1/8" audio cable MUST be a stereo cable, not mono. If you're in doubt pick up the Radio Shack cables listed in the tutorial. They'll cost you less than $10 last I looked.

If you do run into trouble you know where to ask for help.

Good luck!

Dave

Thank you Dave. Once I got all the software loaded and bought the proper cables all at the shack, it was a piece of cake. Goes really quickly once you know how.
