We upgraded our two TIU's and Two remotes to 4.02 today, hoping to get rid of engine not found problems. The one remote appears to work fine. The other one which we bought used, wouldn't pick up any engines remotely. It did see an engine when connected direct, but gave it ID #8 instead of PRR 2-8-0 9543. I could control the engine, it just didn't name it correctly. It has worked fully sometimes, and then not. I want to check it for loose boards etc. How do I open it? Also if I can't find anything can I return it directly to MTH for service? About how long does it take. Thanks, Dave

I don't know about the warranty if you open it up. I opened mine after warranty expired to modify the antenna. There is a screw under the batteries. Then the two halfs are held together by small tabs. You can pry it apart starting at the bottom moving up the sides. squeezing the sides while you go may help. the board just plugs in and could work loose. Joe

There have been several threads on opening the remote. Here are the masters words "Once the batteries and the screw are removed, squeeze the top case at the bottom while pushing out from the battery compartment. Be patient and gentle.
Once the case starts to separate just work around the edges. There's no need to pry the case apart. When open, the two halves are connected by a wire or two so open it like a book." You can edit the engine name to anything you want by going into ENGINE SETUP/EDIT ENGINE/EDIT NAME Paul S. Paul's right, if you squeeze the top of the remote it comes apart much easier. The tabs that hold it are at the second row of bottons up from the bottom, right at the thumbwheel, at the bottom edge of the screen, and up top. I just took it apart to be shure, Joe
