I recently upgraded a PRR S2 Turbine to PS2 for a friend. MTH has two 3V soundfiles for this engine. The problem is as follows:

One soundfile does not have Turbine sounds. It chuffs.

The other file has the correct sounds but turns off the headlight when the loco is put into reverse.

One tech told my friend that this could be fixed in the sound file by the programmer at MTH. After talking to the programmer, my friend was told that this should be corrected by rearranging plugs on the board.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Dave

The headlight should turn off as the backup light should come on when it is put in reverse. When the engine is put back to forward does the headlight come back on?

Yes it does. This is the only sound file that has done this. The headlight should stay on in forward as well as reverse.

Marty,

That would be great!

My email is Dave@kingmousecustoms.com

The two files I have are:

RO61PF3_S2turb_PRR060201eFIN (this has the correct sound with the headlight issue)

SO22PS2TURBFRT_PRR020513aFIN_3V (This has the wrong sound but the headlight is correct)

On the way. This was the file that MTH made for the Imperial Turbine and someone at MTH thought they would put freight sounds in. Enjoy.

Dave

Yes most STEAM headlights stay on in reverse as well as forward.

Marty,

I installed the file you sent last night. The woosh sound is nice but the headlight still goes off in reverse. Might it be possible that I got a diesel board in my steam kit?

That's not a function of the board, rather, it's how the sound file is programmed.

OK here is the skinny and it makes sense.

I just got off the phone with Roy from MTH, who was very helpful. Thank you!

Because the turbine does not chuff, a diesel sound file is used to achieve increasing whoosh sound. Although many parameters can be changed, the base configuration for the steam and diesel sound files cannot.

I just got my first MTH engine. It is a turbine, but the C&O coal turbine.

I guess making convincing turbine sounds is problematic.

Im very happy with the looks of the model and its operation in conventional (I do not have DCS). The sounds and sound quality, not so much.
