This may be a routine problem to the old salts......but it's a new one for the "No" salt.

I have a Southern FM (30-2805-1) that has been my workhorse and run fine...until this afternoon. I've got a problem track that I had to work out but basically the engine would loose power where the "dead zone" was. Well once I got it fixed now I have a problem with the enigine speed. When I power it up it would start moving either on 2 or 3 SMPH. Now as soon as I hit 3 SMPH it takes off like a rabbit and when it first fires off it sounds like the gears are slipping. I typically don't do anything with the speed (quick speed) other than the wheel. What should I look for?

In advance thanks for helping

Roger check the tach tape to make sure it isn't dirty. It could also be the tach reader has gone bad.

Pau, checked everything and it seems to be okay. I think it may have flipped into "Conventional Mode". But it still "jumps" and takes off as soon as I scrool the thumb button to 1. I have Lionel ZW transformers, thus no bell button. If this is a possibility, how do I get back to "Command Mode"; or is this above my paygrade?

Roger you are starting the engine under DCS aren't you? It sounds as the tach reader has gone bad. They are fairly easy to replace as long as you have a very good pencil soldering iron and very steady hand.

It's DOA!

Did a feature and a factory reset. After the feature reset it went to a low speed - maybe 15 SMPH. After factory reset I got nothing but some low volumn buzzing noise - no movement. It needs an ICU bed .... quickly!
