My home computer is a bust and I cannot use my work computer for upgrades. My local hobby shop is technically challenged a bit, and MTH charges $19.95 per DCS (I have more than one system). Are there any hobby shops that do upgrades for little or a nominal charge? Thanks.

If you lived closer to Hagerstown I'd just have you bring it over and I would upgrade it for you. I'm sure there must be someone on here who lives closer that would be able to help. Hopefully your posting here will bring you a helping hand in your area.

Now that I know how to do it, our club is offering to do it for $10.00 just to help with club donations. We are in Frackville, but I'm in Reading. Unfortunately the cables are in Frackville at this time, and the software is on my laptop in Reading. I plan on putting a CPU up in Frackville permanent just for this ability. In my experience it takes longer to update the Remote than the TIU, and it's heck on the thumb cramp holding down the button. Dave I would try to find someone local in case you find you need to go back to 3.11 for compatibility case. Dave BTW if you have a CPU with internet access, and a serial cable, about $12 at the shack it is really easy to do. It steps you though on line what to do. All you need if you have a computer with the serial port is the serial cable with a Male end on one end and a female end on the other, the 1/8" stereo male to male cable they ask for only needs to be 6" long, and a standard curly Phone to handset cord and 10 minutes time. Once you do it yourself, you'll be free to change it all you want without outside help. Dave
Come visit the North Schuylkill High Railers display layout. Open every Sunday 12-5. Conventional, TMCC, & DCS 24' x 55 multi-level Schuylkill Mall, Frackville PA. |

Cruikshank,
I saw a friend do my remote, and he had a small plastic locking pliers type device. He placed this on the remote to hold it down while converting the remote. I found one in the local tool shop, real cheap, saves the cramps! San Diego Frank |

Paul I am in Collegeville and can do it for you if you can't get a hobby shop to do it. I have everything in my laptop. You can try Bussinger Trains in Ambler if you need a shop Kevin The Penn Central Railroad, alive and well and living in my train room Ember King 1997-2008, Daddy's Baby |

Kevin,
Collegeville is not too far. Thank you for the offer. I could not find your e-mail address. If you can send one to me I would appreciate it. pkallus@chesco.org Paul |
