A great clip! Note the Trolleys were gone from Third ave replaced by buses of Surface Transit, one of three private bus companies in Manhattan at the time. The Third Ave El had composite cars arriving at the station for the boys. And how young they were!
It was a great time in New York City. The Lionel showroom was at East 26th street, Gilbert Hall of Science at 25th street and 5th ave ( the building is still there) and Madison Hardware a couple of blocks away on East 23rd street.

At that time, my dad was a civilian corpsman working for the US Navy, and he and his ambulance were standing by for the filming of the Navy Yard scenes. Another neighbor was presnt during those scenes, since he was a crane rigger.
NOTE: The crowd in the background overlooking the statue of Prometheous were ACTUAL bystanders watching the location filming (then a relative novelty).

In the movie On the Town, the three fellows walk under what is probably the 3rd Ave EL. To the right is what appears to be a Good Humor tricycle. You can still buyt them for about $2,000 from http://worksmancycles.com/shop...re/html/vending.html
Arttista makes a really nice version with an ice cream man riding it.
On what building's observation deck are the three sailors on with the Empire State Building in the background? I'm surprised at the low railing height.

In 1949, People seemed much more optimistic than today, jumpers seemed less of a problem then. Less litigation and less concern about the low barriers. Maybe it was more common sense who knows.

Thanks for your answer. I agree with your observations ..... people were responsible for their own actions/safety to a much greater degree than today. Shame!

One of the things in these movies that intrigues me are the hats worn by men. I gather that the white straw hat was very popular even into the late 1930s. I was looking at the Arttista figures and he has a golfer with that type of hat but his other figures (which are neat) wear many other types of hats.
