Sunday Greetings!

Unfortunately I am saddled with reading for work next week - this is an on-going thing that takes away my time from being outside and enjoying the weather at the beach.

My post is really simple today and takes me to Allan Miller's “Show off Those Trains” article of the most recent OGR run, 238. There have been a number of posts on the forum on accumulating trains, spending WAY too much money on them, thinning them out, selling them etc. I think there was a gentleman who felt he had wasted valuable years of his life buying and accumulating trains.

Allan's advice is worthy of mention. What a nice article, packed with meaningful thoughts to think about. I,particularly liked your collection of Ives trains Allan. They are truly nice! The shelving units are tastefully done!

With OGR's permission I would like to quote Allan Miller:

“As I see it, there are several reasons for displaying as many of your trains as possible. For one thing, it assures access to items so they can easily be rotated on the layout...”

What a great way to “cycle” through the collection and enjoy seeing them run and not stored in boxes.

Get your trains out of the box video!

This week's Pickerupper song is Annie's song by John Denver:

Lyrics highlights:

"You fill up my senses ...
like a sleepy blue ocean"

Interesting about displaying. I spent some time in my attic this weekend...wondering how much time I had left. In the corner of my basement..were the Metro North Set, The PWC Hudson, the PWC Santa Fe,The Lionel r27, the Lionel GS4, the MTH redbirds, and the MTH Orient. The Mrs. said, fill up those empty spots on the shelves. Holy cow, the shelves are full...now I have to deal with the empty boxes...It was almost comedic how I stacked the larger boxes in the middle of the attic..and stuffed about 20 pieces of rolling stock into the rafters. Based on current estimates...I may have 3 years-4 years left before i need to start storing in my car trunk. Crawl Space above garage...full...crawl space below family room ;...full. Attic space...almost there.

Steve thanks for the kind words. How is the shelving coming along?

Rat, well man, way to go. Post some pics of the shelves and trains! Great stuff.

Status quo, Prairie, which means although the two tracks are fully functional, I have yet to finish mounting the subway station and tunnel graphics. I also have to figure out how to use (i.e., cover up) the remaining few inches above the shelf layout. And, I have to continue the wiring work to get my 6-track display yard lighting ready.

I still haven't done the work for getting pictures uploaded to the forum. But, I did give Chris/Subway18 a preview and he feels they're forum worthy.

Things like the going to work five days a week thing and being available for family stuff are really putting a dent in my hobby pursuits. Big Grin

Lousy weather expected here at the shore this weekend, so I'm hoping to make a little more progress, but thanks for asking...
