I would think you would have no problem running it with a MTH transformer. Not sure if you'll be able to open the doors or not? Someone here must know.

The Lionel R27 announcements will work with a MTH Z-1000 and other conventional power provided that you install a 9 volt battery as instructed in the Lionel manual. Without the battery I found the announcements only repeated the first Coney Island stop again and again. With the battery installed or a BCR with charging circuit the announcements will work correctly and advance to each stop. Door operation will work in conventional by holding down the bell button for a few seconds and then either the right side on the left side will work. The right or left side is selected by selecting right or left via hidden switches in the roof of each car or you may disable the doors completely. With TMCC or Legacy you have more control and options like being able to open right and left doors at the same time and many other features. I am happy using conventional control and have been using my MTH Z-1000 for a while with a few problems that were not related to my power supply.

You are welcome Zack. Remember when using the bell button to open the doors you must hold the bell button long enough to hear a air release sound. I count to about 8 and then you hear the sound and then I release the button. The doors will then open along with the station stop call out. If you don't hold the button long enough you don't get the stop called out when the doors open.

While you can run it conventional, using the Z4000, the unit really shines under Legacy. I have set up a recorded session for one loop and by creating it for use as loop, it will run, stop, make announcements in sequence, and open and close doors automatically without operator intervention. I think you could also do that with the DCS controller; however, I have not tried to program that functionality.
