I noticed on ebay the prices for the silver roofed redbirds sky rocketed. Any reason why? These and the newer silver 4 line are the ones I am interested in. Any recommendations between these 2. I also like the whites from the 80's and the graff set. Do the sounds in all of these compare? Any one better than the other? Motors, features, Details. I spent many years on the silvers and redbirds, sneaking in and out of the 6 yard. Could I change the silver 4 to a 6 train if I wanted to?

It's all a matter of supply and demand. The silver-roofed redbirds, along with the World's Fair R-36's and the "silverliner" R-32's have fast become collectors items. The R1's in my opinion, are the next sets to go that route. Forget "Fee-Bay!" I've had better luck locating some of these treasures in the smaller hobby shops that have no internet presence.
With regard to the 4 Line R62's, the motors don't seem to be as strong as the ones in the Redbirds and earlier SMEE's that MTH has produced. So, if I had to make a choice, it would be the "birds" for sure. I haven't changed the route signs in any of my models, but a lot of forum members have done so with excellent results! Maybe some of them can chime in here... Good luck! --Elliot |

What's your price range? Maybe we can make a deal. Arthur P. Bloom TCA 86-23906 "I love the smell of smoke pellets in the morning!" |

That's the high price range I was reffering to. I recall seeing them for under 350 on ebay. Is this because of it being harder to find now?

545 is pretty good. I haven't sold a set for less than 650.00. I think I have one up there now for more. The reason for that is, you find a set for is 400 hundred say. End up sitting on it for a year of two, sometimes more. Now you have the money tied up for that length of time. You have to pay a listing fee and a finial value fee, not to mention a new battery. Than the buyer paypals you and they take 3%. Truth be told, we don't do this to make friends, we do this to make money. Occasionally some friends along the way. With that said, if it weren't for people like myself that do this, and buy extras, there wouldn't be any "NEW" sets to be found so many years later.

Thats about right,650 for the 4 car set proto 2.0,and 300 for the addons anything less is a good deal.

If you saw it for $350, it either didn't work, was a used loco-sound version, or wasn't an R-21 Redbird set - maybe an R-17 redbird set. I bought a couple extras over the last couple years, and the were all around and over $600. I wouldn't mind selling one, but I don't want to lose money either.

R-21 That should be pretty fair, don't you think? |

My buy at last Octobers York was a 6 car R21 set for 450

That's almost a better deal than the (2) R36 World's Fair sets you got there for around $400 ea. last year! York does have some sweet deals - although you have to wade through the $800 R-42 WTC "rare" sets and the $1100 R32s... I laugh at the RARE R42 as he had two of them less than 10 feet apart, and they are alsways on Ebay for around $300-$400. LOL!

That sounds like you got a great deal.

|

Well I do since the MTH "MET's" set was much closer to the 1:1 than say the cheapy chankee set. as far as other Mets memorabelia... I do see your point though! and how about them Jets while we are at it? member: TCA & LCCA |

Well, they can fix that when they release the R142s. That's what the 1:1 Yankee car was anyway. They could do the real Mets car too if they break out the R36 mold again.
