Hi Everyone
The R-11's are in the final stages of preparation for production. If you are interested in viewing pictures of a pre production model, please visit "Joe Frank's NYC Transit Modelers Group Forum Board" website. Joe Frank has a MTH R-11 Pilot Car Sample Shell currently in his possession for his inspection and shown on his EL Layout. Joe posted photos taken of the pilot model he has on July 4, 2009. Finishing details are missing, such as the stom door, chains, trucks etc. But the finish on the car is spot on and we will be thrilled at this model. Steve This message has been edited. Steven-
Unable to access. Can you post the appropriate link? Many thanx. |

Here's the link to the NYC Transit Modeler's Group
The adjusted plated finish on these models is right on! The green cast we saw on the pre-production samples at York is gone and the model looks perfect! Hopefully MTH will ship this year. Elliot |

I have scoured that yahoo site and can't find those R-11 photos anywhere...Anybody have a link?
Is there a release date for these and the R-142's yet? Thanks Frank TCA # 00-50779 NMRA # 133575 00 |

Looks like the one on the right has the original "green" finish that we saw at York in April. The one on the left appears to have the modified plating. According to one MTH Distributor, they are expected in October. We shall see.

Those two in the MTH display? Those look an awful lot like the unpainted engineering samples. If they were plated or even painted, they'd be a good deal brighter than in the above pic.

I agree with Patrick. Those are clearly unpainted samples. I saw the pics Joe put up, and I think they look good. Hard to be sure though because you never know what the lighting conditions were or what white balance settings were used. I trust MTH will get them right.

Yeah, like they got the roofs right on those CTA cars? Those look like plastic car bodys. They could've used the same plating tech on the R40's or a set of R32/38's. Why do I get the feeling they are doing all the sets that never had MTA logos?

Chris,
You are probably right... unless the lighting was so bad in the MTH booth. The pics that Joe posted were right on. Elliot |

They hadn't started the plating experiment yet when the 32s were released - and i don't think even when the 40s were released. They are still working on it. Just remember where we subway fans were 10 years ago before MTH took the plunge on the infamous R42 shorties.

Well, with reports of MTH ditching its CTA license, and Lionel opting out of subway sets, we might be back there again....

Hopefully not - at least not until we get a set of R15s
Actually we will never be back there again Check out the Subway Section here at OGR! Chris C. Shaffer TCA 08-62434 http://www.trainweb.org/subway/index.htm |

I hope you are right Chris. I wish I'd been able to hear about some of those other sets when they were new. I missed out on the R36 and R21 redbirds, and I didnt realise I liked the CTA cars till I got to ride on them. I'm just glad I caught a set of R1's on Ebay, and I recently snagged an R26 and a set of Standards. Im gonna need another R26 or R17 Redbird if Im going to get my custom set fixed, but Im really hoping for R160's, at least after the R142's come out...

Here's an update on delivery status of the R-11's. I spoke with Andy at the MTH booth in Owosso over the weekend. He stated that the sets should be on the water in August for a September ship date!
When I questioned him about future MTH subway releases, he assured me that MTH is not getting out of the subway business... just laying low for awhile until the sets that were promised are delivered and the market shows signs of improvement. He hinted that we could possibly see some reissues or repaints of prior releases with different route numbers/destinations. Reissuing popular subway sets, I believe would be a first for them and I can just visualize the after-market "collector" values drop on certain "most-wanted" sets like the World's Fair cars and the R-32's. We shall see... Elliot |

Re-issuing existing sets goes back to the very first set. The infamous shorty R42s were initially offered in silver and blue with D signage, then re-released in all silver with E signage. They also re-issued the R12s and R17s in several schemes. I wouldn't mind some re-issues. In order, I'd like to see:
R21s in silver with blue stripe signed for the 1 line. R17 in original maroon signed for the 6 line. R36s in true Redbird colors signed for the 7 line. Of course I would prefer to see some new sets... R15 in silver with blue stripe signed for the 1. R10 in aqua / white signed for the A R33 in World's Fair colors signed for the 7. Those 3 of course could then be re-released in: R15 in original maroon/cream R10 in silver/blue R10 in Greenbird scheme R10 in original 2 tone gray. R33 in Redbird colors R33 in white R33 in Greenbird scheme. Check out the Subway Section here at OGR! Chris C. Shaffer TCA 08-62434 http://www.trainweb.org/subway/index.htm |

You are indeed correct, Chris regarding the reissues you mentioned. I guess "re-release" would be more appropriate. I was visualizing a set of the R-32 brightliners, perhaps in a plated version with aluminum doors, and and signed for something other than the D or N, maybe even a "Cyclops" signed for the C.

I will take some re-issues especially the R-36's in redbird colers for the 7 or The R-40 slants in the A or B train and the R-21 in the blue and silver, maybe a rebuilt R-32 in c train. Then lets do some newer cars like the R44 or 46 or R160's in the E train or R-38. Even a Non Slant R-40. To make the people who like the old stuff happy release a old set and a new set each year so the old and the new guys are both happy.

I can think of a few routes and combos.... mainly reissues of the silver /blue and Late 80's redbird schemes for the IRT cars, redo the R32/38 for the A, C, and E lines to compliment the F R40's. R42 or R40 MM in D,E,N or even J/Z routes. R 1/9 for the other original IND routes to compliment the R1 set, redo the standards for other BMT routes. For new cars, Of course R142/160 in every route possible (LOL kid in a toystore comin through) I would also like to see a REAL work locomotive. They also might want to think of synching the station stops between sets. the 4,5,6 should ALL have 42 street or 125 street, for example. Maybe they can consder doing a double subway trestle, without the supports standing in what would be the roadway uner a real el. (More wishful thinking, but what the heck....)
