Since they haven't made the R15s yet, I'd say get the 62s. Wink I'm guessing you mean one of the other sets, either the R12s or R17s which both came in several colors so depending on which one you mean I would probably say that one since the 62s were sadly underpowered.

Too bad about the R1's - it's a great set - my favorite. Have you considered the R11's which are (supposedly) coming out later this year? Jim's Trains is selling the set (20-2933-1) for $430 and the 2 car add-on set (20-2933-3) for $155. (I pre-ordered both.) Get your name on the list - this is a really nice set.

I think this train was originally intended for the 2nd Ave subway back in the 50's - it was later re-designated as the R34 in the 60's. Anyone care to shed additional light on this train?

Yes, they were a test set intended for the 2nd Ave. Subway. They were the first ever stainless steel R-type, and I think cost $100,000 per car. There were only 10 ever made, and as you mentioned after their GOH (general over haul) they were re-designated as R34s.

8013 is at the Transit Museum in Brooklyn...

That problem sounds like simply a dead battery, particularly if the set hadn't been run in a few months.

You might want to explore the deal a bit further.
