I used a few vacation days this week and took my family to Coney Island on Wednesday. I hadn't been there as as adult and I'm still gushing about how much I enjoyed myself. My wife, a native New Yorker as well, had never been there; consequently, it was my young son's first time as well. We had an absolute blast. A return visit has already been planned for our August vacation.
At one point, we were walking along Surf Avenue when we heard the rumble of an approaching train on the elevated structure. Lucky us...it was more than ONE train. Here comes a Q on the upper track with an F pacing it virtually directly below on the lower track. It was a heartening sight to see much of the standard street activity stop for a few moments while all the parents turned their kids in the direction of the tracks to watch the two trains pass. My son, already an avid fan, just about jumped out of his skin. I noticed even a few folks without kids taking note. Trains still capture the imagination in a way few man made objects can. After lunch at Nathan's, I made sure my wife took a picture of my son and me in front of the Stillwell Avenue Terminal. It certainly is a stylish and imposing structure.
My wife never ceases to be amazed at how we always seem to manage to work in the trains somehow!
The rebuilt Stillwell terminal is a beauty You should have gone up to the platforms The roof on it is reminiscent of an old time car barn in Europe It is impressive The MTA should be commended for that one
