Thanks, CCrider, I'll give it a shot. Anyone know of a good match for airbrushing the maroon paint?

No kidding! I thought the Mets cars were a fantasy sort of thing. I moved out of NY in '93 so I'm out of the loop. I just found some pics of the real thing, even the blue face. Thanks for the heads up. I don't see the roof logos, though. How many of these cars were there? http://www.orenstransitpage.co...cpics/subseries2.htm

Is that anything like "de-lousing"?

or de-gausing, de-magnetizing ? How about un-metsing de-decal-ing, or unpainting de-grafitti-ing ?

I think I'm just going to do a partial De-Metsification by removing the roof logos, renumbering it, and treating it to an MTA decal. Thanks Pelham and CC.

The picture always reminds me of the early 1970's, sno. I was taking a Japanese group on the subway from Union Square (14th Street) to the Energy Control Center near the Lincoln Center (66th Street) and we had to change trains at Times Square (42d Street) to transfer from the BMT to the IRT. The entire inside and outside (including all the seats, doors and windows) were painted with graffiti, so we had to wait until the doors opened * so we could then look outside for a sign to see what station we stopped at. The Japanese visitors just smiled and said. "New York Subway VERY CLEAN" www.njhirailers.com * There were no public address station announcements in those days
