Not a subway. It's a commuter train. Runs from the suburbs into the city. Basically falls in between Amtrak long distance passenger travel and a local subway/light rail.

Actually it would be considered 'Commuter Rail'. Just like Metro North Railroad & NJ Transit.

I believe they fall under CLASS 2 , freight and passenger operation.
