Well according to my dealer there will be no repainting of the CTA cars to the correct white color. MTH apparently did not look at their own catalog before ordering the paint color for the CTA cars. So it is not foreign builder error!

MTH also dropped their CTA license, because no more CTA cars will be made again.

The reason is the cost to repaint the cars to the correct color is too costly.

MTH says pooh to Chicago railfans once again! Me I'm not surprised.

That's really a shame. There is this, however- even though prototypically wrong, those green and cream 6200s are an exact match for the CTA surface fleet in the '50s and '60s.

If thats the best MTH can do,I'll try to do one better. If I must repaint Then I'll go to a ALL YELLOW WORK TRAIN. Sure hope some one out there picks up the CTA license?? I would like to be the first in line (IF) 3rd rail would do the 4000's. Have a great father's day, Bruce

wow. seems that MTH is trying to ditch its transit line. that sucks, as im not sure anyone will pick up the slack, especially with a system like DCS.

This is really unfortunate because MTH totally missed the boat on this one. My last two purchases have been these CTA cars and the Burlington E-8's that were supposed to be plated.

Can somebody in the U.S.A. or Canada who is not busy making products pick up the CTA license and produce models of these elevated trains and subways?

Youse guys in NYC have had all the transit cars you can carry. Here in second city the few CTA cars have been but a trickle.

So when they ask the experts here what the colors should be;And then go and mess up that really complex "white" color shown in their own catalog; and then refuse to redo the cars well it really stinks.

If we can not depend on MTH or Corgi to make CTA cars, somebody else has to make them.

Making CTA models sounds like a new career I would like to have.

Where would I get started on doing that?

Of course if we had a licence and made them in here in the states, we would have to offer a full CTA line of vehicles in all scales from 1:160th to 1:32nd Scale.

Andrew-

It might be easier to go through Island Modelworks. All major Chicago subway cars are available, although in HO. Recently, Island broke new ground by offering an O-scale version of its HO PATH PA-4 cars, and Joe the owner says he's willing to consider O-scale versions of other HO models.

If you don't want to paint and glaze yourself, Saint Petersburg Tram Collection made beautiful O-scale 6000 series cars- the original PCC subway cars- as well as the next generation 2000 series. They cost a lot and are unpowered, but they are museum quality models.
