The wite R12's are PERFECT for tagging, as well as the red R17's and R26's. my cousin has the R12, and a friend that gets a gleam in his eye everytime he sees it...

That actually is a good question, if lo v's ever got tagged. As far as I know, the last of them got pulled out of service by the late 60's, just before the graffitti trend hit the subways, so it probably was unlikely any of them would have been tagged like in the photo (graffitti was not new, trains always had stuff scrawled on them on ad posters and such,I am talking about the spray paint invasion type).
Hate to say it, but I agree with Allen, I can appreciate the modelling but the graffitti era was nothing to cheer about, having done a lot of riding of subways in the 70's into the 80's, it was not pleasant art work, it was a symptom of a city in many ways out of control, that along with track fires, derailments, burned out motors and subway crime. While I also will say the city has gone too far the other way, having been turned into a suburban fantasy of what a city should be and losing some of the fun that was there, graffitti was not part of that to me. While certainly not endorsing any of the points mentioned above Graffiti happened and adds a degree of interest and realizem to the model. Some of the art work was very good. Like a tattoo it may not be your thing but there are some talented people out there who could put their work to better uses. Chris TCA 03-55643 |

sorry, but your wrong...............they are GREAT looking cars now. |

I was referring to the real deal, not what people do with their own cars. I can appreciate people's skill in modelling graffitti era subway cars, and if that is your thing, go for it...I was talking the real deal, not the models of it. Someone taking the time to 'do up' their cars like that takes passion and yes, artistic skill, and since they are your trains.....(and being an operator type, who weathers locos and cars, there are plenty of collectors who think that is just as bad).
