I don't know whether this has been discussed, so please excuse the possible repeat posting. I noticed the R-40 was originally listed as being in the 2006 catalog yet was issued this year. Was this an extremely late delivery or was it a reissue? If reissue, does MTH reissue all of their subway sets/add-ons or a select few? The reason why I ask is that I'd like to obtain the older sets not currently available through dealers and I don't want to go through the eBay ripoff route and I don't want used sets. I'd like to see them reissue R-1s, R-21s (w/Proto 2), R-32s, R-36s (World's Fair), R-42s and all of their respective add-on sets. Anyone have any "insider" info as to whether these might get reissued? Seems weird that MTH would not reissue something that's in such high demand and are commanding crazy prices on eBay and other auction sites.

Those are all just late delieveries. Lead time is approx. 2 years on an MTH subway set. To date, all re-releases have been in different paint schemes / routes. I posted this the other day in another thread...

quote:
Re-issuing existing sets goes back to the very first set. The infamous shorty R42s were initially offered in silver and blue with D signage, then re-released in all silver with E signage. They also re-issued the R12s and R17s in several schemes.

Note the R12s have seen 4 incarantions to date:

Original 1948 two-tone gray - Route: 7
Early '80s White - Route: 1
'60s Cardinal Red - Route: 3rd Ave Shuttle
M.O.W. Yellow - Route: N/A - MOW

The 17s saw a similar treatment being released in:

Silver/Blue
Silver/Blue w/ Graffiti
Cardinal Red
NY Yankees Fantasy
NY Mets Fantasy
MOW Work Train

To date, they have not re-released an identical combination of model/route/color. With all the yet-to-be-made combinations, I don't see them doing that any time soon. That said, no reason they can't rediscover the R21 tooling in a more appropriate color scheme, or the R36s in several new colors. Still hoping for those R15s in Silver and blue and a new set of R33WF cars in World's Fair colors to go along with the R36WF cars.

I would take one more set of 12s - Silver with blue stripe! Big Grin I need a full set to complete the trains I rode on the 1 growing up - silver and blue mix of R12s, 15s, 17s, & 21s. Big Grin ...and a few extra "custom" colors added to each silver and blue car, right Sno? Wink Big Grin

They should go with triple pane windows. Better R value.
