The R-11s are in silver. I pre-ordered mine with Jim's Train Shop - he has the best price (and service).

I let my vendor know earlier today that I'd like to get in on the R11 thing even though I never pre-ordered. Since I'm a long time (MTH Subways) customer, he said he's got me covered. A little while later, he called to ask if I wanted the version with the silver doors or the blue doors? Didn't know that option was out there, that sound kosher to you guys (I never checked catalogs, just trying to jump on the bandwagon a little late)...

Yes, sorry. There are 2 versions: 20-2933-1 which is all silver, and 20-2934-1 which is silver with blue doors. Looks funny to me, dunno. Anyway, the 2 car add-on sets end with a -3 (instead of a -1). Both. The R11s were originally delivered with silver doors, and after a GOH (General Over-Haul) they returned to service re-classified as R34s with blue doors. The sole existing R11 at the Transit Museum, #8013 has been returned to original configuration with silver doors. Pics of both versions in service can be seen here: R-11/34 Pics Check out the Subway Section here at OGR! Chris C. Shaffer TCA 08-62434 http://www.trainweb.org/subway/index.htm |

HEY!! anyone know what the route designations for either set?

The R34 (with the blue doors) is signed for the 3 - West End line. to Coney Island. I think the catalog pic showed the R11 route - but can't recall what it was right now.

If I had to restrain myself and only buy one, I would get the R11s - (silver doors). But, what I might actually do would be to get the add on set of the R34s with the blue doors. That way I kind of would have both. Personally, I think if you can pull it off you're going to want both sets.

A question for the subway mavens: I have a set of R34s (the blue doors) on order. Would like to slap on some 1960s era Transit Authority logos if they were prototypical. Can't find any good side pix of the cars, however. Does anyone know when the R11s became R34s if TA logos were applied? Many thanx in advance for any assistance.

No logos on the 11s/34s. They will be good as is.
