The set is due out this month but I have no idea if this will happen because I have heard nothing on this set since it was announced. Anyone know the word on this set? Was it on display at york? and is it still coming our way this month ( I hope)

I don't recall seeing it at York. The R40's just shipped (got mine last night--they're using the 2x2 packing like the RailKing ones), and ze slush fund is a-hurtin'
They were not at York, and I would be shocked if they made it anytime soon. We usually hear some sort of rumblings about a new tooled set months before it ever gets in our hands. As you said, we haven't heard anything. I have a feeling it will be a while.
MTH has a track record of 3 years after the initial announcement. We shall see it that improves. Still a bunch of sets in the pipe line to be made yet. LOL !
Come on R-15's....(in a tone trying to roll 7s) LOL!
Wanna increase turn around time? I think we are about ready for an R17 re-release in original maroon - or an R-21 in kale green or even better - platinum silver and blue stripe! Seems MTH lost the mold to Seems MTH lost the mold to the R21 door.
I think that it would make more economic sense for MTH to continue to reproduce their previous R-17/R-21 models in different colors than make a brand new model.
Why not also make an R-9 or R-10 out of the R-1 mold ?
Wouldn't it have been easier to make a scale R-42 (looks like a flat nose R40M) or an R-38 out of the previous R-32 mold than a brand new slant nose R-40?
Jimmy Sutter said on the 3-Rail forum that they should be here in September. Which if you think about it actually isn't so bad to some other delays we have seen.
I wouldn't buy the R17 in a different color. Nor the R21's for that matter. One set in Blue and silver is fine, one in white, etc. Maybe the R1 or R12 in Blue and Silver. other than that, I'm glad they keep coming out with new sets. Regardless of how late they are. So far all but the R62's were worth the wait. The R62 problem was the different size. But, the car it self was very nicely done.

If the R21s or R17's were remade in a differn't [aint scheme I would totally buy em. First off they would be easy to make (if MTH Still has the R17 and R21 Shell .) and you could appeal to a lot more people if you kept the price at the 350 range of when they were first sold and just added a few minor details such as rubber between the door and maybe some short couplers on the set? I think it would be a great idea for MTH to re-release these items rather then just keep coming out with new tooling for the R11, R142a and make us wait 2 years for em rather then maybe 8 months...
Hey, I say keep the new sets coming. But, in the meantime you could mix in one re-release with each catalog or alternate. No need to have a catalog go with no subways like Oct. New tooled sets have appeared the last few April's so if there aren't going to be any new tooled sets in Oct., then why not put in a re-release of the 21s in silver/blue or kale green or 36s in Redbird colors to hold us over.
My top two re-releases for mth to do would have to be an R36 in redbird colors and a re-release of R1-R9 in Silver with the blue stripe. That would be one hot lookin set!
I have loved this train since it first went on the 6 line in 2003. I just hope MTH puts the same connectors/chains as the R-40 and that they make it an AAAAA type train.
