I was by the 6 yard today and took a few photos, just thought I would share them.

Love this double crossover.

This is the second time I was over there taking pictures when the securoty personal walked over to me and told me to stop taking pictures. I told him that since I am outside the yard and there is an open grid gate that I don't think he has the right to tell me I can't. He said he would call the police if I didn't stop. I alwasy see subway photos on here and was wondering if anyone had similiar experiences?

You were well within your rights Stevin, photographing the subways is legal as long as you don't use a tripod or other ancillary equipment. Unfortunately there are quite a few folks that still beleive that it is illegal to photograpgh the subways and its surroundings. This includes some security guards and even some actual police. I usually try and carry a copy of the MTA rules that show its legal just in case, an am always courteous in explaining it to whoever questions me - although it rarely happens. If someone is being particularly difficult you may be better off going somewhere else because its just not worth the aggravation.

quote:
Section 1050.9
Restricted areas and activities.
c. Photography, filming or video recording in any facility or conveyance is permitted except that ancillary equipment such as lights, reflectors or tripods may not be used. Members of the press holding valid identification issued by the New York City Police Department are hereby authorized to use necessary ancillary equipment. All photographic activity must be conducted in accordance with the provision of these Rules.

Stevin....thanks for the pics...I grew up 10 minutes fron there, about a mile or so up Middletown Rd. I used to walk past there every day in the summer to my job in Westchster Square.

On the other side of the EL by the carwash (if it's still there Smile) was the chicken house....where you would go as a kid with your parents and pick out your bird. You would then finish your Westchester Square shopping and the pick up your chicken wrapped in plain white newspaper. I can still smell the place now! Big Grin

there is still a car wash but next store is the building supply yard "eljam".
I actually worked there as well and would watch the trains pass all day since the lumber yard is pretty much right under the el.
