This week has been staining ties, and gluing them in place. Both On3, and O standard gauge. I also installed a beautifully built "truss rod" bridge, that was built by gentleman that recently passed away. So far about 90' of ties laid. All this in preperation for a group coming down from NW Arkansas this Saturday.

Looks great, Tim! Certainly a more ambitious (and prototypical) project than I would be willing or able to tackle, but it certainly will result in a fine looking railroad.

Is that group that's coming to visit going to be your track-laying crew?

I don't think that would be a good idea. If there was a problem with the track. I wouldn't be able to blame myself.

Gee, I recognize a bridge built to the plans Harry Brunk published in the Gazette...

Finally got the first rails laid. This section is where the On3, and standard gauge converge, and becomes dual gauge. I also had to make my own gauge out of brass sheet for the standard gauge. BTW The rail is code 100. The rest of the On3 will be code 83.

I presume that it is 5' gauge SG? It looks a touch wide...but it could be the shorter ties. While I do love the look of Proto:48, if I have any operational SG on my future layout...it'll be 5' gauge.

75# rail is pretty light...so I presume that you won't be running any 2-8-8-2s? I like the look of lighter rail!

You are correct about it being 5' standard gauge. There's more available, and i'm not going to be fussy about 1/16'' of an inch. The period that I model is pre-WW2 so the rail would be lighter. My minumum radius is 48". so I'm not going to be running L-131s even though I think the code 100 rail would be able to handle them. BTW the I went with 8' ties.

While losing that extra 1/16th of an inch does look great...it is an awful lot of effort.

I'm surprised that 8' ties look that short!

Is CB&Q #638 or 641 in the near future?

#638, or 641 would be awesome!!! I would also be happy with a D&RG C-48.
