I've recently finished reading Howard Flemming's 1875 Narrow Gauge Railways in America. It is certainly both amusing and interesting. Other writers have covered much of this debate, but it sure is fun to read a large work from a contemporary proponent of the fallacy.

I'm planning to read each issue of Railway Age from 1869-1885 for more of it.

I am particularly amused that the accompanying material in the volume is mostly from after the failure of the NG movement.
