Dave,
I think the coupler swing on the rolling stock would be the limiting factor. I've seen one running on 9" radius with the shorty ore cars. A little experimenting with various rolling stock would probably be a good idea. Jim |

I think Jim is absolutely right. The 0-4-0 will likely handle a 9" curve okay by itself, but the coupler swing on the locomotive and any trailing rolling stock might pose a limiting factor. I really need to get some Micro-Engineering flex track (or more Atlas Code 83) and see what I can do with tight-radius curves. I tried making a pizza box layout a few months ago, but messed-up several sections of Atlas flex trying to get smooth joints. However, I'm determined to give it a try again in the near future.

I`m trying to get a small 3 level layout in the middle of my 3rail and getting confused with the smallest radi. Are you guys talking about 9" across the whole circle of track(diameter) or 9" from the centre of the circle.
Thanks easly confused James |

i believe they are speaking of a radius of 9" with a diameter of 18" - some micro layouts have been constructed with smaller radii bit the are not practical for anything near practical operation - even the 9" radius is tight but can be accomplished with very careful track laying and patience - very short ,preferable 4 wheel rolling stock would be required in most cases
