I apologize that it took me so long to do this, but FINALLY here are some shots of the new Ten Wheeler compared to a Connie and a 4-4-0.

First the Connie - the first shot is looking down to show overall length. The Ten Wheeler is longer than the Connie - not by a lot - but longer...

Comparing the tender height, the Ten Wheeler is substantially taller...

Though the height of the cab roof is about the same...

From the front, the Ten Wheeler is again taller...

Comparing the Ten Wheeler to a 4-4-0, as one would expect, there's no comparison. The Ten Wheeler dwarfs the 4-4-0.

From the top...

From the rear...

And from the front...

Again, sorry for the delay. Frown Like Jim, my Ten Wheeler has remained in the box until this morning.

Just a heads up for you so inclined to fall deeper into the ON30 hole. Micro-Mark has the 10 wheeler for sale at 192.00 + freight.
I think the use of the 10 wheeler would be the end of the use of the Bmann 10 ton cars.

I am sure the Accu Craft and AMS rolling stock will be needed to make your trains more realistic.

Dennis, could you post some pics of the 10 wheeler next to Bmann and AMS or Accu Craft cars for looks comparison.

Micro-Mark web site is www.micromark.com. Phone is 1-800-225-1066.

Thanks for the photos, Dwight! Looks as if some more train money will have to be scrounged up to purchase one of those beauties.

Dwight,

Did you equip your ten-wheeler with the same coupler than the 4-4-0? Maybe it is just the perspective....that fouls me.

In general, what kind of couplers do you guys use for On3, HO kadee or O scale Kadee?

Thanks
Yves

At the NG convention, San Juan Car Company was showing off their new, scale On3 coupler called the "Evolution Coupler." It is more detailed than the Kadee and is compatible with them and will fit Kadee coupler boxes. There is a photo and description of the Evolution coupler in the Sep/Oct issue of Narrow Gauge and Short Line Gazette magazine (page 16). I don't have many pieces of rolling stock and may convert over to them...they look real nice.

The couplers shown on all three locomotives are the stock McHenry(?) Bachmann couplers. No changes have been made to any of these models (yet). Wink

I'm under the impression that they are a slight step forward for Kadee-style magnetic uncoupling, and a step backwards for those of us that don't like magnetic uncoupling.

I can fairly close this weekend to scanning plans for the 4-6-0 to give a comparison, but the photos are definitely better. The Tweetsie 4-6-0s larger cars than all but the largest Colorado freight cars. Of course, having something that looks right is the goal with freelance roads...not necessarily having the correct cars for a particular engine.

Here's a link to some photos of the Tweetsie:

Those are all Cy Crumley photos...perhaps you could say that he was the godfather of Tweetsie history.

Hello everybody,
I stepped off the cliff just a few minutes ago. I preordered my 10 wheeler with sound from Micro-Mark. I ordered the wood cab model cat number 84543 for $243.65 which is a 48 percent discount off MSRP, with an estimated ship date of early December. What a nice Christmas present I will have.

That's the same one I have Al, other than installed sound (I prefer to install my own). I admire your taste. Wink

I received a "Tweetsie" version from Bachmann today (for product review). Wow! That beauty sure is big and it's heavy, as well. I suspect that I'm going to have to buy some wider radius curves to handle that gem, but it sure will be fun to put it though its paces.

Allen,
What is the overall length of the 10 wheeler. I need to know how big a turn table I need to build.

Jim,
Were you rooting for the Sooners or Hurricanes tonight?

Hope you are all having a great weekend.

Al,

I'm afraid I'm still an Okie at heart as I'll be rooting for the Sooners.

Had a distaster to take care of over the past week. I've been working on a scratchbuilt brewery for about 4 months. I posted one picture of the coopers shed earlier. About 24 hours later part of the wall over the work bench buckled and dropped some 250 pounds of boxes, bottles, etc., on top of the 99% completed model. Now, all I have is the memory and few pictures ... after salvaging the detail parts, the rest of the strucutre is residing in the Pinellas County land fill. Major reconstruction of a wall (and repairing a leak that had gone undetected for at least a year) will curtail layout and train stuff ... It never ends, it seems!

Jim,
What a bummer. Sounds like a double s$$$ happens to me. I would think many Florida homes would be subject to unknown leakage caused by hurricanes. I would hope your insurance will cover the damage, but no way will it cover the lost work you put into the mill.

And, the Sooners got beat again. Bad news week.

While I'm still debating about getting the 2-6-0, does anyone have a comparison photo of a regular O gauge engine to a ON30 engine close to the same type?

I really like the detail on the engines shown! The boilers are plastic correct? They look great!!!

The mogul had a plastic boiler, the newer ones are diecast.

Here's a comparison photo of a D&RGW K-28 2-8-2 and a SG locomotive (4-8-2, I think):
http://photoswest.org/cgi-bin/imager?00401991+RR-1991
The K-28s were offered in On30 by MMI, the 4-8-2s have probably been offered in brass by MMI's parent company.

Somewhere, there is a great photo of a SG Maine Central 2-8-0 and a 2' gauge forney side by side.

I tried unsuccessfully to find a picture of a tweetsie 4-6-0 alongside one of their SG 2-8-0s.
