Has anyone have information on how well these new engines pull? I thought there was a review that mentioned they did not pull very well, too much wheel slip or not enough weight on the drivers. However, I could not find a thread that discussed this point. Some that mentioned the gearbox under the boiler though. Thanks!

The Decapod is a pretty good puller I have had it pull 25 cars up the helix with no problem The MTH UP 9000 on the other had was another story That wimp couldn't pull its own weight It had trouble with 10 cars on pretty mild grades

Thanks, Maybe that was what I was confusing it with, the UP9000. I just seemed to recall some report about them being poor pullers, but it could well have been the mention in the same thread of the 9000 units.

The recently issued MTH Russian decapod is a small engine even though it is a decapod. Capable of at the least O-36 curves. It runs well at slow speed and is more like a switcher that a large road steam locomotive.

Running it recently at the Monroville (Pittsburgh) Greenberg show for the Fort Pitt TCA Hi-railers it ran quite well in conventional mode with (2) MTH 0-6-0 doing a triple header. Engine sizes are about the same as are the drivers.

Nicely detailed engine with lots of smoke. A very good train show piece.

Greg;

You also may have been confusing its real world performance with the O gauge version. On the Western Maryland, at least, it was found to be fairly slippery and somewhat underpowered for heavy use. Not the same situation for its younger and larger brother, the I-1, however. Smile
