Here's a pic of the Lionel NYC F-7B from the new catalog. I ordered what I think is the same unit, but what showed up was in the lightening stripe scheme. I wanted it to put with some of my PRR units to represent early PC. It was not as advertised, so I returned it to the dealer. Turns out Lionel was using a pic of the wrong scheme in the catalog. My question is whether or not this is really a second issue in cigar band, or just another incorrect illustration of what was actually produced in the lightening stripe scheme.

I didn't check but I would say if the product catalog number in this 2008 vol, 2 catalaog is the same as the catalog numbers for this engine in previous catalogs , then its likely that it will be lightning stripes . The catalog number would change if the paint scheme did in my opinion.

That looks like an F7B painted during the cigar band era.

Yes that's what it is and what was advertised in the catalog. But when I ordered one, what showed up was in the Lightening stripe scheme. Turns out Lionel changed the design, but never publicized it. So the question is, is what is advertised here a new run in the cigar band scheme, or is Lionel just trying to get rid of the old stock painted in lightening stipes? I guess I'll need to track down the stock numbers to figure this one out.

My $$ will be on the Lightning Stripe. Red Face Lionel needs the Cash. Foolish they would NOT advertise the change! Mad
