You can buy a MTH smoke unit as a part.
Put it wherever you want.

If you have a postwar ZW transformer, do you wire the 2 wires from the transformer directly to the smoke unit board? Can the smoke unit board handle the AC output of a ZW? Do we need anything else between the smoke unit board and the AC transformer output? Do most of the MTH boards come with wires attached or just a place place to plug one of those Molex(?) connectors into?

I had a TAS Turbo Smoke AC Unit. It was an easy 2 wire installation. I need to replace this unit. Is the MTH unit a direct replacement?

I ordered & received a "smoke generator" out of the Summer 2009 catalog from Micro-Mark about 2 weeks ago. It is their item# 82602 (fan-driven) by Aristo-Craft Trains. I bought it to enhance a factory on my layout & I think it works great.

Seuthe makes nice little units that slide right into the barrel or a chimminey,I used them on my mth station and they work nicely with only 2 leads that could be connected right to the power source.

The Aristo-Craft unit runs off of track voltage and has a large smoke fluid reservoir.
Works great.

I have three MTH smoke units on my layout. One in a engine house, a lumber mill and one in a laundry. I added brass tubing for stacks. I also have a couple of back up smoke units. All were purchased used on E-bay. Don

If you are using an MTH smoke unit, make sure you get the older model used with PS-1 locs, that has circuitry on the heater element board. These are designed to connect directly to AC track power, and work really well with 12 VAC.

The newer PS-2 smoke units have no on board circuitry as they are managed by the PS-2 board. They won't work for your application.

I put a postwar style pumping smoke unit inside a caboose body that lies on the layout and directly wired it from a toggle switch directly from a transformer. Smoke pours out. Really cool cheap accessory.

I got one of these. So I just hook it up to the accessory AC just like an accessory right? Also, can I add a small swithc like you guys discussed with the Miller engineering bilboards?

Stevin, it looks a little small enough to fit almost anywhere but there is almost no reservoir. How often do you have to fill it and if you are late in filling it what are the chances of it burning out due to a lack of fluid?

Boxcoupler,

How well does the Micro-Mark unit smoke compared to a MTH? Don't nessarily need that much smoke, just trying to compare it to something to get a idea how much it does smoke.

Thanks
John

Micro-mark has a summer sale going on now until Sept 8th, I just ordered a bunch of stuff. Their smoke unit has a very large fluid resevoir, much larger than the MTH one.
