I recently purchased the B&O model of this loco, 20-3282. The catalog description is shown at the bottom of this post. Of interest to me is the listed feature "Operating Marker Lights". Mine has the firebox glow and cab interior light (although the soft key 'LIN' has no effect; the cab light goes on/off with the headlight), but does not seem to have operating marker lights. Nor is there an "LMK" softkey.

I called MTH two days ago to ask them. Was transferred to technical services and had to leave a message. They have not yet returned my call.

If you have one (there were three other road names .... PRR, NYC, Jersey Central), please let me know if yours has operating marker lights.

Before you ask, it appears there are small classification lights on the front of the loco just above the coupler, but these old eyes can't tell for sure.

Thanks.

Hi Bob,

Have you checked the complete softkey list under "more"? If the softkey for the marker lights is at position 16 or higher "LMK" wouldn't show up on the normal list.

Dave, the "LMK" soft key does not appear in the inventory, either in the 15 visible or the remaining keys. "LIN" appears, but it doesn't do anything. The interior light is on the same circuit with the headlight. MTH got back to me and suggested I do an engine reset, but that didn't make any difference. I'm beginning to think they dropped the marker lights during the production cycle.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Just to be sure you are comparing apples to apples here; "marker lights" are on the rear of the tender, "class lights" are on the front of the locomotive (smoke box or pilot deck). On all of my MTH Premier steam locomotive models, so far, the "LIN" soft key turns off the cab interior lights AND the front class lights. The soft key "LMK" turns off the red markers on the back of the tender, if the model is so equipped.

Hope this helps a little.

I think MTH usually describes these lights as 'marker lights', including the front classification lights.

I have two other locos that I'm currently running, both Premier. One is an F40PH and the other a Consolidation. On both of these the "LMK" soft key turns both the marker and classifications lights on/off. The "LIN" soft key turns on/off the interior cab light on the F40. On this 0-6-0 the "LIN" key doesn't do anything. On the Consolidation, I forget whether the "LIN" key does anything. Apparently there isn't a lot of consistency from engine to engine.

I've examined this USRA switcher with a magnifying glass and am now convinced that it does not have classification/marker lights, even though the catalog says it does.

Thanks for the reply.
