These engines are big.
They look best on 72 IMHO, but look awkward on my elevated loop of 48; so unless you can conceal the curve with a tunnel or building, there's going to be lots of overhang...and it might look weird. That said, GO FOR IT! There's a kid on YouTube who runs a Lionel MOPAC SD70Ace on 36, and he does a good job of "distracting the eye." They are rated I think for 31, so 36 should be OK. Wider the better!

I run my Lionel Katy on O-31 regularly. Doesn't look the best but it has no issues going thru the curves. Kinda like a toy train!!!

I have no issues running my Lionel Mopac through O36 curves. It does look a little awkward swinging through them though. I'll have to look for that video for tips on "distracting the eye." Maybe I'll place my Wicked Wanda's building near one of the corners. That's pretty distracting.
