I recently sold an F-19 C&O Pacific Lionel 6-11128 and the buyer reports that the backup light on the tender does not work. I had tested everything prior to shipping and all was OK. I know the backup light is directional. So....any thoughts from anybody as to what might be amiss? Is this a common problem with a simple fix? Engine runs, smokes and sounds fine...seems no other problems. I always hate shipping electronics....but..what can you do?
My buyer will be watching this post for advice. Thanks in advance.

If all other outputs are functioning OK, the it could be a wire came lose in shipping. Did he try to reprogram the loco back to factory defaults and see if it worked?

Dave, thanks for the quick reply. I'm not sure if he's running CC or conventional. Hopefully he'll check these posts and try the reset. It did work conventional before I shipped....so maybe something simple came loose? Does CC alow you to turn off the backup light?. I checked the manual online and it makes no reference other than to say the LED lights in reverse. This was a brand new engine...never fired up till I tested on a roller base.

The backup light should work in both conventional and command modes. There is no way to turn it off I know of.

Under TMCC, Aux 2 on the Cab-1 will turn the loco headlight and tender backup light on and off.

The back up light on my Santa Fe Atlantic Tender stopped working one session using legacy. I immediately ran it conventionally with no problem and then went back to Legacy control, also with no problem. For some reason there was something that triggered it to stop working using Legacy that went away after I either unpowered the track or switched back and forth.

Most likely the LED fell out of the hole that it sits in during shipment. The light is being lit, but he can't see it because the light is in the wrong location. If so, it is an easy fix to open the tender and reinstall the light in the hole it sits in.

Or try (if he is running in TMCC) try ENG/#--/ AUX1/0 That should reset the loco to factory defaults.
