what is special about that station?

It's a good looking station. Here's a photo.
I may be interested, depending on the size of the station's footprint and final price. |

What one should do is goto the B&O museum in ellicott City and see the HO layout [of the land as well] that shows the purpose of Point of rocks!

I'd be very interested depending on the price.

It's drop-dead gorgeous! I have seen advertisements in Railroad Model Craftsman (I think) for models in other scales (HO?) and always wondered why it hadn't been done in O. That was awhile ago - couple of years. George Modeling the Weirton, WV-Steubenville, OH area between 1948-1957. |

I would be very intrested in a reasonably priced model, e.g, less that $275.

Another view. Tracks in the foreground are the Old Main Line to Baltimore MD, track in the background are part of the Metopolitan Subdivision to Silver Spring MD, Washington DC, Riverdale MD, Laruel MD and Baltimore MD.

Do you really think that a reasonable price for a professionally built 1/48 scale replica of that station would be $200 or less?
|
||||
|
How do I know, I have never built one. All I know is what my wallet can bear. What would be a reasonable price for a "craftsman" structure? |
||||
|
$200 ????? HAHAHAHAHAHA At $200 I'll take several. HAHAHAHAHA

Check out this website: Timeless Structures This will give you a good idea of what a master craftsman's work is worth.

Oh, h*ll no! I need it to be $250 or less. Better look at a kit!

I would be interested depending on the price.

You'd be lucky to get a kit for this in the box in O scale for even that price, Is it real? Do you see it, too? We all see it. That don't make it real. |

It would be worth considering. Would it be in kit form or a finished model? Based on the number of pre-orders, how much lead time would there be between orders and delivery? (Some of us would need some time to save up for this baby, I think)

I would agree. BTS Orbisonia Station, which is not nearly as ornate, as a kit, is considerably more. Purchase paints, primers, adhesives, modeling platform, and maybe a few tools and you easily add another $100. Beautiful building though, it deserves to be modeled. |

Sounds like Chessie man needs a crash course in scratchbuilding!

Only if they really like you and this is a gift. The $200 MIGHT cover the materials. |

For me the station is something I'd like to have and can see it selling in $400.00 bracket. At that price I'd buy one. It seems the older I get the more I appreciate quality craftmanship.

What ever happened to the late John Armstrong's model of Point of Rocks Maryland?
|
||||
|
|
|
It was sold at the estate auction along with a day and half of other items. Don't know the identity of the buyer.... Is it real? Do you see it, too? We all see it. That don't make it real. |

Gilly, please don't quote only the last part of my post. I never said what your post implies.
Here's what I actually said:

A gorgeous station, to be sure. I have a large painting of the Point of Rocks station in winter hanging over the fireplace in my living room.
Because I once lived in Maryland and have visited the actual thing, I would likely purchase a nicely done model if it was in the $400-or-so price range. Allan Miller, Editor-In-Chief O Gauge Railroading magazine |

Maybe MTH could do this for about $125.00.
|
||||

It would be nice to see a kit for that station. Scratchbuilt? $4-600 and up!
Biggest problem is finding brickwork with detail thinkness. Ask Harry Heike. Jim's Express Jim Bengert-(RR) |
