I just learned that Deny Martin, a long time member of OCSMR was killed yesterday while working at Monmouth Battlefield State Park. It seems he was doing some tree clearing when a dead tree fell on him. Our sympathies and prayers go out to his family.

Deny Martin

Our condolensces on Denny's passing. This is tragic.

I knew him from the club.

They had mentioned the accident on the news last night. (We live about a mile from the Monmouth Battlefield.)

My gosh, this is horrible news. Denny was a fixture at the club. I saw him at York a couple of weeks ago - he stopped by the booth I was working to say hello.

My deepest sympathies to his family. RIP Deny.

Hi all:
I'm in a state of shock right now as I am typing this as this is the first news I'm hearing of this tragic loss. Myself, Budd aka Locobudd on OGR and Deny were the last to leave the club on Tuesday night-we locked up the place together.

Unbelieveable-I see him on Tuesday night and this happens the next morning. Gets you to think about life and how it could end that quickly.
Deny was a good guy and a huge train enthusiasts.

I'm really saddened and shakened of this loss and my sincere condolensces to his family.

I am so saddened to hear this. I haven’t been active in the club for several years now due to the distance from my home and other constraints on my time, but I do remember Deny as always being the quiet one amongst the more vocal and joking cast of “characters” one often finds whenever a group of men gather for a shared interest such as this. He quietly enjoyed the trains and camaraderie, accepting his share of fun poking, always with a smile, and rarely giving it back. I had conversations with him now and then regarding our common careers, with him working for the New Jersey Parks Department and myself for Ocean County Parks, but his quietness made it hard to really get to know him better. I wish I did. So long Deny.

Truly unbeleivably sad. As Ted said earlier, he, Deny and myself were last to leave the club on Tuesday nite.

I first met Deny about 15 years ago while we were doing a show at the Pine Creek Railroad in Allaire State Park. He was enthusiastic about trains and he shortly thereafter joined the club. He has been a fixture ever since. He will be missed.

Our prayers and condolences go out to his family.

Is there a trust fund for the dependents and spouse? May we contribute?

I'm not sure that doing volunteer work would be covered under a normal AD&D policy.

Webmaster...it's just before christmas can't we help out somehow through the auspices of his train club?

My sincerest condolences for Deny and his family. This is not what we expect and it always is such a shock for the family. I was cutting down a tree myself a week ago, it was only about 8 inches in diameter and about 30' tall and when it hit the ground I realized, That's a big heavy tree. I had to use a come-a-long to keep it from falling in the neighbors yard. From now on I get the pros to do stuff like that. Though I was not injured it scared me a bit. It did fall where I wanted it though.

My prayers go out to Deny and his family.
