Apparently in limited supply on 10/11 and 10/12, Hallmark's premier ornament weekend includes a number of limited issue ornaments. This year, one of them is the Lionel New Haven checkerboard F-3. These things sell out very fast (I missed it last year) so don't wait until the 13th or you will miss it. From the photo I have it looks very well done. Just a heads up. BigRail

If you DO happen to miss out; don't despair!
All the "hoarders" who rush out to buy up all the "limited quantity" "collectables" will be selling them on eBay next year.

The picture I saw on the flyer, one of the horns was crooked. Hopefully that was an artists mock up or production sample and not final product.

Yes, the Tin Locomotive series, for one. There may be others, as well.

To the best of my knowledge, the first issue Hudson still brings more than the original cost. The secondary market's kind of hard to follow on these.

At last Fall's York, I was looking for one to use for a "scenic project". They ranged from $30. to $15. (all in boxes). I bought the $15. one, which happened to be in the LAST building I visited, in the next-to-last row.

MartyE just posted a copy of the Lionel October Newsletter and there's a photo of the New Haven ornament. The copy goes:

quote:
When it was introduced in 1959, the Lionel 2242 New Haven Diesel locomotive offered the ultimate in "up-to-date realism," with a working horn and headlight, authentic "Checkerboard" color design, and intricate trucks, ladders, tanks, vents, portholes, and other cab details.

Guess what??? The photo is an FT, not an F3! Oops!!!

I got two! Anyone who wants one, let me know...only $50 Big Grin

The passenger car that went with the Blue Comet sells for quite a bit more than the original price. The last two went for $36 and $40 on the bay. Of course, that is the only one that I don't have Red Face

It is an FT. I got one anyway. The store I went to only got 3 of this and six of the other limited ornaments so it seems this one is a bit short packed.

My wife called all of the Hallmark stores in town Sat and found only one left, at a store on the other side of town. She went right over and got it for me. Good woman!

Let's see, I bought three of those. If I hang on to them until Dec. 1, given the extreme spikes we see pre-Xmas, I might be able to afford "12 pieces of O track, 11 Life-Like pine trees, 10 MP fishermen, 9 crossing signals, 8 light bulbs flashing, 7 spools of wire, 6 tubes of Liquid Nails, fi-i-i-ive bottles of JT's,... 4 panels of insul foam, 3 coal loads, 2 Opti-Visors and an F3 in a pear tree-ee-ee-eeeee! Big Grin
