On all my layouts I have used the 3569 Lionel postwar dump car. You can dump the load on one side, pick up the car with a switcher engine, run it around a few times and then place it on the other side and reload from the #97 coaling station. It's lot of fun.

A car that dumps is the way to go. Lionel has made several different ones over the years from metal, to die cast, and plastic. All will do the job just fine.

As implied by "sphillyj" above, to work properly with the #97 Coal Loader, the car must dump from the side. (The cars that dump thru the bottom will not work, obviously.)
For receiving coal from the 97, virtually any hopper or gondola car will work. You may have to do a little research/experimentation to find a proper- size "coal" for best results. |

Well I got a few more boxes of stuff from my Mom;s house, and in it was a 3469 hopper!! So I have one at least.
Thanks for all your help!!! Paul B |

Ya, I got a automatic Milk car. Looks like it needs some work, becouse one door is off, and it had a few small bags of parts with it. Other then that, not much. Just a lot of broken up engines, and stuff. Paul B |
