Well,

We are in the process of setting up our Christmas 09 holiday layout. I invested in the DCS system last summer. I hooked it up for the first time last night, and loaded a couple of engines. I was amazed at how easy it was to hook up, load the engines and run them.

I really liked the features of the remote. Especially, the PFS/PSA button. No more guessing with the timing of the whistle and bell buttons. I was also impressed with how slow I could get these engines to run. I have been using my cab-1 to run all of my ps1,ps2, tmcc, and conventional engines, and this really adds another dimension to railroading.

At first I felt it was a big investment and was unsure about it, however, now I feel it was worth every penny!. If anyone is on the fence like I have been for the past several months, I would highly recommend this system to anyone.

Bluegill1.....

Sorry to tell you this David...but it is just another way to run your railroad. I'll leave it at that. IMHO.

Yes, DCS 4.10 is capable of handling the quilling whistle in any PS2 engine that has that capability.

Hehe, you can go commando while running any command control system or even conventional. In fact, it's likely encouraged.

Joe, welcome to the DCS club. I am sure that by now you are thoroughly hooked on it--for me it totally changed the way I operate and enjoy my trains. If you have TMCC equipped locos, adding the TMCC to your system is a snap, and you will be able to run ALL your locos--including the conventional ones--with ONE handheld.

It IS the best way way to run 3 rail trains as far as I am concerned.

Jim S,

Yes that is the plan. However, it is like riding a bike. I have the training wheels on right now. I wish to become familiar with the remote and each PS2 loco that I have, and then will branch out into the TMCC world. I can't wait!!

Does the kit with the interface unit and remote have everything you need to get started or should you have any wiring or other accessories??

All you need is the TIU,remote,, and obviously a track lockon with wires for a small loop of track. However, I understand that for the larger loops od track. a person needs to wire the track up using a star pattern via an MTH 12 or 24 terminal block, and wire a 18v bulb, in that cicuit. You would also need to purchase an AIU if you want to operate switches and acc. through the DCS remote.

My loop is a double loop with a 30 degree crossing between the single tracks, approximately 10 feet wide by 20-25 feet in length. Will it also work wired up to just a single (unlooped track) for demonstration purposes? Once, new devices, such as steam whistle effects, become available it is my understanding you can download and instal update software to power these effects.
