I am trying to create a layout like the one below (from www.thortrains.net) for around the Christmas Tree using FASTRACK and I am having trouble figuring out all the pieces I need to make it complete.

Has anyone done anything similar using FASTRACK or have some track modeling software and could help me with this? It would be appreciated.

Thanks,

John

You can get the free trial version of AnyRail at anyrail.com. This version limits you to 50 pieces of track, but that will be enough for such a simple layout. AnyRail is super easy to use, and it has a complete FasTrack library. I hope this helps.

What dimensions are you working with? It looks to be 4' x 5". Will you be using all O-36 curves?

Rixster, I would like to keep it to keep it as small as possible somewhere around 4x5' would be good. 0-36 would be the minimal curve as I need to run the Hogwarts express on the track. Thanks.

Ricomon, I checked the Anyrail software out, it is for Windows only. At this time I only have a Mac computer and it won't work for me. Thanks for the tip anyways.

Steam Loco,

Best I could do is as follows.... It would need a bit of "sweet talkin"...

It uses:

13 0-36 curves
4 1.37 inch straights
2 4.5 inch straights
3 5 inch straights
1 10 inch straight
1 45 degree crossover

I had that same Fastrack layout under my tree two years ago, using a 22.5 degree cross-over. Let me see if I can dig out the diagram. I used RailModeler.
Ah, found it:

I did something similar for my grandson last year. Mine is a little longer but I think it's the general idea, which I barrowed from "baltimoretrainworks" maybe he'll chime in.

Ddurling: In the layout did you use the 1.375 extensions with the crossover track? I tried duplicating your layout with RRTrack software and it wouldn't let me connect anything to the 22.5 crossover without using the extension pieces. (This seems to be a flaw in the software).

OK, here's what I've come up with. Hopefully, this will work for you.

Rick

Oops, while I was drawing, ddurling was posting. Of course mine is at a different angle. If his plan works, use it. If it needs to be rotated a bit, use mine. Big Grin

Steam loco....Yes that's a 22.5 crossover.
I think the size is 5' x 9', it's about 600 miles up the raod in Md. I do remember using 036 curves with one 10" straight between them.
