Those are hunks of 2"x4" with brick/stone paper glued on. The tunnel portal in the background has the same paper.

Casey,

Not much more to it than what you see. It's 3' x 5', but it fits nicely in my office.

Tex

In my job we see many children in foster care situations, who have been taken away from their parent(s) for their own protection. Amazingly, no matter how badly most of these children were treated, neglected or endangered, they still have a strong desire to go back home to their parent(s).

In my department, we schedule visitation for these children to see their parents. When the visit is over, the children are often quite upset. So, my caseworkers often bring them to my office to see the trains and 90% of the time the trains provide a calming effect.

Great thing for them Skip. I guess you realize the effect electric trains have on children when, like at the NY Lionel store, their noses are lined up against the window watching the action.

I have a therapy dog. I take her to schools where a fellow student died, to hospital's to take children's minds off of the pain and procedures they are put threw. We also go to schools, fire stations, assissted living communities, etc.

At first, I could not believe the effect a dog would have on people who are hurting for one reason or another. I am truly a believer now.

Maybe you can find a therapy dog orginization near you and they might help take the hurt away from the children you are helping.

Thank you for what your office is doing Skip.

Regards,

Tex

Calming effect? Eek My experience is just the opposite. Big Grin

I have been participating in a small train show in Ocean Grove for several
years. This runs the middle weekend of December when the town has its Yule holiday shows. Kids see the train and they get excited. Big Grin When it is time to leave, though, some of them cry and have a tantrum. Frown The trains fascinate them so much they do not want to leave. Cool

The thing that really perks them up are the animated Pixar cars. They love the characters from Toy Story, Nemo and Monsters Inc. Kids these days are more familiar with the Pixar characters than with Bugs Bunny, Road Runner and Yosemite Sam.

Well, if you've ever witnessed what happens when some of these visitations are over and you have to take the child away, you'd understand that such a diversion is indeed calming.

Nice work Skip.It must be emotionally tough for the case workers as well. Nice to know the trains help the kids to calm themselves after all they have been through. Smile
