Forgive the possibly stupid question, but by steam-era paint do you mean diesels with a big maroon/gold bordered stripe across the side?

I asked this question on the Atlas forum last night and Jim Weaver replied this morning and said they would Enjoy Frank |

steam era paint=black with gold lettering. N & W did NOT have any diesels with "maroon/gold across the side" until late 70's and early 80's with gold NW(ach!) on the sides. The rr called the color Tuscan Red. |

Technically these won't be the first steam era paint, as that scheme used the true steam
style font with somewhat larger lettering. However, this incarnation would certainly be correct for use with your Y6b and A during the last years. Glad to hear that Atlas will be doing the heralds correctly. I'm guessing that this will be a big seller in spite of being a rather un-flashy paint scheme. When I'm able to get the two rail version, it will become a prime candidate for a weathering job to pop out the detail on this awesome model. It will also allow me to install the tool box on the frame just above the fuel tank, as this is another of those unique N&W features. Many thanks, Atlas.....been awhile since I've had something like this to look forward to. |
