Will someone post a reference to the previous thread, photos, or information concerning what others have done to "grind down the tabs" to reduce the MTH gap on the SD70ACe locomotives?
Thank you! |

SD,
This thread may have sunk into oblivion here, I saw it by chance. Throw it over to the 3RS or 2 Rail forum for more responses, but the person that made this mod is Mike Pitogo, however, this is not the way to hide the gap anymore on the older MTH SD70ACe. This mod will also lower the engine height (won't be scale anymore) and destroy whatever resale value if you care about such things. A much simpler method is to glue 1/8" or thicker styrene strips under the frame, and paint them the matching color. I posted pics of this a while ago, but they seem to be gone now. Andy Peterson came up with this idea. |

Sir...thank you.
Interestingly, MTH is supposed to have eliminated some of the gap on the later runs of this engine...notably the GW Bush locomotive. Any idea how they did that?? |

SD,
The very mod you spoke of, but remember, this is an original mod from the factory. MTH has lowered the gap on the SD70ACes. (however, the "beam" between trucks and frame is not the correct width). The mod I speak of partially corrects this, but does not add the thickness where is should be, in the middle so to speak. Take a look here. This thread has some info useful info. http://ogaugerr.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/5621021474/m/3431071474 |

Yes. I wrote that in my second sentence.

Okay...thanks!
I'll just live with the gap and hope things get better. |
