Thats funny. I was just thinking of posting the same question. Being from Northern NJ, Atlas bangs out all of the roads that I want and their stuff is just gorgeous. The Railsounds and Crew Talk leaves a lot to be desired.

If you are talking about the acoustic quality, a speaker upgrade (mega bass for 0ne) makes a dramatic difference. if you are talking about the content of the chip, I know of none. it would be nice if one of the computer geeks on this forum could figure out how to program a chip with custom sounds I think they could sell many of them.

Lionel makes a limited number of Railsounds 4.0 sound sets available to the other manufacturers. You can see what's available at the TAS web site here.

Since Lionel's technology has now progressed quite a bit beyond Railsounds 4.0, perhaps they will consider making more options available in the near future.

Stir you are in the minority Man... Problem with sound is operation commands are embedded in with some of the sound files and both MTH and Lionel closely regulate what is their licensed stuff. Both TAS and electricRR were somewhat controlled as to what they could/can offer to sell us. If Lionel stops licensing older sound stuff to Atlas and the others, it may be quiet city for those other companies. While Stir will be happy. Some of us will not be..

JMO- The engins without all that stuff run cooler and I run for hours at a time. This past Holiday season I ran a Williams E7 6-9pm non stop for 3 weeks.

It has been rumored that there is a black market out there for the better sound boards. I for one have no idea how you get the better boards.

I always wondered if the effort to garble the talk on the licensed boards was worth it.
