When making a DCS lash up and 2 engines are connected at the front and you want 3rd engine as a pusher on the end do you do anything different?

No. Just make them Front, Middle and End units and they should work just fine providing the "pusher" runs the same speed as the others to avoid issues. Joe

I'd love to do it but run strictly conventional, which makes it tough on speed synchronization.

I just tried this last night, and it worked great! I set up the locos as a lashup and had no problems at all. It was a fun train to operate.

I run DPUs on my most modern trains. It would be nice if MTH could modify the lash up function to designate the last engine a DPU so that its trailing headlight is illuminated per prototype practice, like this:

By the way, you absolutely can run a helper or DPU engine at the rear in conventional mode. Speed control is not necessary. Any engines that will run in a lash up (as pretty much all PS1 diesels would) can be run this way. The train actually runs at more consistent speeds through curves with distributed power.

Rich,a s always, that is a great photo! Love those UP diesels!!

I do this configuration also on my coalporter train- 3 powered on the front, 48 coalporters with loads, then 2 pushers on the rear- makes a great looking train!!

Who makes the "RailGon" gondola?

I'm fairly sure that's a MTH car. Lionel also made scale Railgon car back in the 80s.

Thanks, Jeff.

The gondola is a K-Line car refitted with two rail roller bearing trucks and Kadee couplers.

It looks like the engine has two rail trucks as well?

Running a DCS "lash up" as distributed power is one it the real great prototypical features of the system.

Here is a video of 5 units being operated as one consist with DCS on the Woodshire Railroad. The NP passenger cars in the background were custom painted by Jeff Sohn.

You could also spit up one consist as head end, mid train units and pushers. Personally I like operating the pushers manually (as a separate consist) and uncoupling on the fly. It fits in the caboose era and is done today with helperlink.

ope,

I use MTH lashups for DPUs more and more since I use scale wheel engines with no traction tires. I find it better and more prototypical to put a pusher on the end for long heavy trains like this set of metal Atlas gunderson stacks. The train is very heavy going up grade.
