Some interesting comments about prototypical errors in the Electroliner. It appers MTH's effort to provide model trains which are reasonably close to being prototypical is quickly eroding. The Cardinals' Train recently produced is a good example - - the wrong type engine (a USRA Pacific) was used, rather than producing a Pacific K-3 and several cars were misnamed.

Yep, the poles on the inner two cars need to be rotated 180 degrees, and moved to the opposite ends of the cars.

From that drawing it seems the only thing wrong in the York shot is MTH had the 2 center cars switched in the wrong order.

It only fair you Chicago guys get the wrong trolley pole, because I will bet they put the third rail pickup in the center instead of the outside on the Liberty Liners!!! So its even Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

You're right! the kitchen is at the wrong end of the dining section.
Probably just need to turn the 2 center cars around.

Regarding detail accuracy, are or are not the correct colors for the North Shore Electroliners teal and salmon? The green on the MTH developmental sample does not appear to match what is viewed in color footage of the real train sets on "North Shore Line" by Sunday River productions.

What say you, CNS&M experts?

Bob; Pretty close, from what I can tell. When I saw the cars at York, it seemed to me that the color was pretty authentic. Don't forget that train colors do change, somewhat as the paint ages. The North Shore took pretty good care of it's equipment and painted the trains about every five to seven years, but there were variations. So of the color, I won't complain.

And regarding the location of the trolley poles, I realy appreciate that someone offered the explanation that whoever assembled the train at York, probably never actually saw the real train. And I would be willing to bet my ordered set that that train was assembled wrong. I'm going to count on that. I can't imagine that MTH would spend all that money for tooling for this train, and then miss such an obvious detail.

About the Sunday River Tape: think about it a sec, the movies were shot with 50's-60's film technology, so, even though the quality is good, there will be some discoloration.

Here's a pic of the Electroliner at IRM: http://www.flickr.com/photos/10372533@N06/2815780899/ I think it's pretty close. And I guess we'll just have to wait and see is the cars can be switched...

prrBill: Thanx for posting that clip of the 'liners being delivered to the P & W. Note the position of the diner/club car in the train. The end of the car with the windows faces the center of the train. The other end which contains the galley and storage for the bar, is closest to the end coach. The trolley pole is mounted over this, "blank" end of that car. That puts the two poles between the first and second car, and again between the third and fourth car, the way they always ran in service.

Now, take a look at the photograph of the train on display at the MTH booth at York. The position of the second and third cars was reversed at that show. I believe that someone, who helped set up the equipment at the show, was unfamiliar with the 'liners, and got the cars mixed up. Certainly the tether plugs between the four cars are one direction only, the way that all MTH equipment is connected together, but the two cars were reversed when they were set up for display.

At least that's the way I'm going to assume that the error developed and that properly arranging the cars will fix the issue. I'm going to be darn disappointed in my set if that's not, in fact, what was wrong with the prototype train!

Thanks, Zach, for the picture of the restoration in Illinois. It would seem that the MTH color is 'reasonable' but possibly needs to have a hue with more blue. Anyone who has seen the Sunday River video will probably understand the origin of my question. The different (and all too brief Wink ) footage included in the video of the Liberty Liners shows them very much as they were when I rode them in the 60s. As a fan of the Electroliners (I own a 3rd Rail Red Arrow), I hope that MTH delivers two models that greatly satisfy their eagerly waiting customers.

They're Premier, so they'll be scale. Or at least as "scale" as their drivetrain will allow (I understand the motors are really shoehorned in there)

It's good thing we aren't holding our breath! Eek
Jimmy over at the Homer City Poor House told us last month they were on the water. If you figure in the time for the shipment to arrive at MTH, then for the crew to check them out and ship to the dealers, the middle of October should be about right, just a guess though. I thinking the only thing that might screw things up at this point would be the upcoming York Meet.

Keep your fingers crossed guys.

Charlie,

Can you be more specific?

Are they shipping from the factory to the boat?
Are they shipping on the boat the US?
Are they shipping from the boat to customs?
Are they shipping from customs to MTH?
Are they shipping from MTH to dealers?
Are they shipping from dealers to customers?

All of those qualify as shipping but have significantly different timelines...

I don't remember seeing these on any of the recent MTH newsletters...the last one I have says "week ending 9/25"...or do they wait until shipping is well underway before announcing them? I recall that the latest Premier autoracks arrived pretty much without any advance notice that I was aware of.
