A friend who saw it on the display said the preproduction model looked dull & unimpressive and said he would cancel if it arrived looking that bad...
Another said it looked very good..

Thats not a very useful critique. Now if he said some thing like its got square wheels and an un-prototypical purple polka dot paint scheme, that we could work with.

To me, it looked the liberty liner / electroliner photos that I have seen.

HAving ridden the Electroliners while they were on the P&W, I can say they certainly looked prototypical (but no liquor in the club car) and since they require 0-42, I'm willing to redo my layout to accommodate them. Add some Brill Bullets and I'll put away all my trains and just do the P&W.... for a while!

I wonder how long a shipment stays "on the water" once the ship leaves port. Confused

I know there's customs and a cross-country train ride waiting for any shipment, just curious as to the typical duration between "shoving off" from China to "arrive in Maryland".

The suspense is killing me.

What MTH et al need is a google maps style tracking of their ships. Each day we can check the progress as the ship makes its way across the ocean.

One month from factory to Columbia. One week or less of testing there; product then ships to dealers.

A Brill Bullet, you say?
If you wait for MTH to get around to it I'm afraid you'll wait a long time.
If you're willing to work, Imperial Hobby Productionshas a resin body kit, very limited production, for sale. Power is by PCC trucks with the supplied sideframes; you can get trucks from GHB International, Q-car, or Pennsylvania Heritage Models. GHB and PHM offer their trucks with HiRail flanges. If you operate TMCC, Electric Railroad will repurpose their MiniCommander to give you a unit that you can conceal within the car body (although interior seats and such will be compromised.
It ain't gonna be cheap...........
One day I'll post photos of my project.

If you want a Strafford Car, I'm afraid that's a scratchbuilder's project. You could, however, travel to Orbisonia to the trolley museum there and photograph the one they have for a starter.

Rex,

I have looked from time to time at Imperial Hobby Productions offerings. In fact that fellows address is about one mile from where PRRBill and I live.

But I would "need" like six of those pups for my automated trolley loop.

It is just not feasible for me to assemble all those and the cost is somewhat high.

Unfortunately I either need to hit the lottery and retire or wait for Mike Wolf to smile upon us P&W fans.

It's now July 1st. Did anybody see the Electroliner at the April '09 York Meet? MTH's refusal to tells its customers what's going on is more aggravating than their failure to deliver the product.

I spoke to Rich Foster at NMRA show. He thinks they might be on the water, but not sure. They are surely not in the next release. The concept of "good things coming to those who wait" makes no sense to me. Some people had to wait for Lionel's Acela.

I figured it out. BillP used the word "angst" in this thread. In the same vein of thought as "Merrmac", MTH thought Bill was asking for them to arrive in August.

So BillP, we can lay the blame at your tootsies! Big Grin

Bill

Look! Up in the sky! Is it a bird? Is it a plane?

No, it's a rather large clod of fertilizer being hurled from BillP's house across the P&W tracks towards me!

BTW, Ratpak, how did you get that picture? Have the YPP (York Picture Police) visited your home yet?

As long as it gets here by Christmas, 2009, I'll be happy.

Now....I see that last year, someone mentioned a Brill Bullet.....

That would be REALLY NICE, as double-enders lettered
Philadelphia & Western, and single-enders, in Fonda, Johnstown
& Gloversville, as well as Bamberger Electric lettering.

Now that would be a Christmas fantasy come true!

I always felt that the Bullets were really designed by Philly area dentists who needed to drum up business. They were so rough riding that your fillings were almost assured of falling out if you rode Bullets twice a day/5 days a week.

Electroliners
Strafford Cars
Brill Bullets

Now THATS a RR!

How does p&wbill sound? Smile

Bill: I'm glad that you brought the issue of the 'liners up once again. Isn't this the longest announcement period on record for any train by any manufacturer? I'm not sure if MTH reads all of this, but I would think that keeping up a little pressure on them, won't hurt. I know that you're looking for the Liberty Liner series; and I'm patiently waiting for the Electroliner, but we certainly have displayed the patience of Job. I thought we were close when I saw the pre-production prototype at York in April but I guess the wait continues.

Oh well, I really don't HAVE TO have that train. I mean, I do have about 50 other trains that I can run!

Paul,

BillP and I HAVE to have it. We're too close physically (and me probably emotionally also) to the P&W not to get them. If I were to sell all my trains, I'd keep the Liberty Liners.

Aren't the Liberty Liners a bit different in appearance then the Electroliner?
It must be getting close.
A rear end shot and a bit fuzzy here but the electrolineras it appeared at the trainfest last month.
No sign of Liberty Liners.

Hey! MTH did something wrong on the CNS&M version! Eek

Look at the trolley poles, the middle ones. the poles should be at the outside ends of the cars, not together on the inside. look here. if I was a fan of the CNS&M who bought the set, I would be kinda disappointed with MTH.

By God, Zach, you are right. The trolley poles are supposed to be on the inside ends of both of the 3rd and 4th car, and on the inside ends of the 2nd and 1st car. Now I'm also a North Shore fan but for whatever reason I did not notice the error in the prototype model that MTH had at York in April. Wow! I know I'm getting old but I certainly should notice stuff like that. I do own the 3rd Rail Electroliners, and while they may not run quite as well as the other stuff I have, with TMC and Cruise Control or with DCS which has it's own speed control, they are accurate as far as fidelity to the prototype is concerned. One other thing that bothered me was the blanked off section of the inside of one of the end cars. you were not able to see throught the car because the center of the car had electronics, motors and whatever. Kind of destroys the openess of the prototype. Also, the outer shape of the trains seemed to me to be more "square" than the prototype, which appears to be taller in relation to it's width. Could be wrong on this point.

I will tell you that if they do finally show up with a glaring, and potentially embarrassing error like the incorrect placement of the trolley poles, I will refuse them. I know that my dealer has gone out of his way to get these for me but, I would not be able to accept them with such an error.

Incidently, for you Pig and Whistle fans, when the Electroliners were converted to Liberty Liners, the primary modifications were: Removal of the step wells on both entrances, removal of the steel framing designed to protect the underside of the train from grade crossing accidents, adding another entrance to the club car, eliminating the trolley poles, and changing the third rail shoes from the over running, gravity activated shoes of the Chicago Elevated to an underrunning, spring loaded shoe that the P & W used. The trains were not totally successful in their new environment because they drew more power than anything else on the P & W and the motormen had to be very carefull accelerating from the numerous stops on the Philly suburban line. They were popular with the commuting crowd because cocktails were available, plus the whole trains were air conditioned; something that none of the other cars offered.

They did operate for over ten years on the P & W, although towards the end of their careers there, one of the trains was usually parked and I suspect that parts were scavenged to keep the other train running.
