OK, here is the official thread to gnash our collective teeth over the delivery of the MTH Liberty Liners.

Any one have any hot inside info on when we will get these? Even some loose lipped hearsay would suffice at this point!

To quote David Crosby (yes, that David Crosby)

quote:
It's been a long time comin'
It's goin' to be a Long Time Gone.
And it appears to be a long,
appears to be a long,
appears to be a long
time, yes, a long, long, long ,long time before the dawn.

I wonder how long it took the St. Louis Car Company to design and build the original Electroliners. Oh well, they didn't have to deal with the same amount of government red tape.

At York, the MTH representative told me December ... 2008. A few dealers I've spoken to suggest somewhat later.

Why MTH refuses to catalog a Brill Bullet is a bigger mystery. The current PCC or Brill chasis, sounds, etc could be used with little or no modification. There are a number of Lines that ran them and lovers of the brill bullet would certainly buy multiples in various paint schemes.

Charlie,

Thats really good news!

rdg_fan,

I have always thought the same thing, just cast a new shell and slap it on the PCC base. Easy-Peasy!!!!

I believe that they will come the same time as the E44s Bill, well in time for Christmas next year. Wink
Hopefully I am wrong along with Jim Sutter.
My wife is giving me a big empty box with a note, Owed one E44. Wink

Bill and CharlieNassua: If that "two weeks" date is correct, that really is good news. My doubt about it is that they did not have a sample of it at York. Usually one of the early production "shots" is available a few months before the real thing arrives. I certainly hope that a surprise is in store for me.

Of course, I'm waiting for the Electroliner, but I would suspect that the Liberty Liners and the Electroliners would be available at the same time.

Considering that the project had to be restarted from scratch, and that an unpainted sample made it into the catalog, two weeks delivery from now is a bit of a surprise, seeing that the test shots didn't make an appearance at York.

I recall hearing that these units needed a whole new underfloor drive system like the 3rd Rail models. I wonder how accurate that is.

I should hasten to add that*, if the statement about a new PS2-compatible underfloor drive system is true, this brings up the possibility of modern light rail vehicles. K-Line came pretty close with the trucks for their trolleys, but this could be the start of something bigger (gotta amortize that tooling)

---PCJ

*'cause I'm reading an FRA report on what to do with Baltimore area freight and passenger facilities, and got to thinking about Baltimore's LRVs.

Bill, Have you ordered a set...perhaps to run on the modules? The reason I ask is that a set of 3-D slides has come up for sale showing Liberty Liners taken 1968-71 in the Upper Darby area. If you're running it during a show, the slides may be fun to have with us.

Bill, my understanding is that the trains are actually here, but that Jill and Taylor aren't ready to do the video yet.

And Mike has figured out that his sales to dirty old men are much greater when there is a video.

I m late to join this "thread" but when I asked Mike Wolf about the Electroliners in York, he told me December and that they were in the process of getting the "Tooling" set up. I have heard that there was a problem with the coupling the units that didnt perform properly and delivery has been moved back until the spring of 2009.

I am sorry for your lose Bill, I was hoping you got them. But alas we are looking at April for them and January for the E44s. April for the Levin E-8s.

I Carumba shows you to be a gentleman, my outburst explatives are not suited for this family forum.

Well I thank MTH for making them, no one else would step up unless they were brass.
