Gary - Which version do you have coming?.... The Mrs. has been on the phone - trying to hide while she is doing it - to find me one I assume for Christmas..... I remember when we were first together over hearing her talking to a retailer some where trying to find me a set of "NO" hoppers in Erie.... it was a hoot... She bought some stuff from Randy Peppcock at Downtown Deco and they had quite a "thing" going on.....

That's Frank - he is a very interesting guy.... I need to call him....

Well, you're the expert Norm, but I think MTH got the eccentric crank in the correct position: (William Monypeny photo, Gary Stuebben collection, www.rr-fallenflags.org)

Perhaps Rich would be so kind as to post another photo of the engineer's side, with rods all the way down? Something looks off to me, that's all. It looks different from what I'm seeing in the video.

Ok, ran mine and no issues. Can't believe it, as this is the first engine I have ever had run right out of the box with no mechanical/electrical defects. That's including all the importers. One minor thing was the running board came off trying to install the ear on the right side. A plastic piece mated to a brass plate which is glued onto the diecast lip. You can see it in Rich's photo. This is the second engine from MTH that a glued on piece has come loose. MTH should find a better glue. But that's minor as I re-glued it. Tomorrow I lube, install tender piping, fill up the smoke unit and take some pics for you guys. I've already swapped out the 40mm wireless drawbar and installed 35mm drawbar. Just enough space to run on 0-72 curves. Much shorter gap between engine and tender.

Gary

I'll be illustrating the technique I used to do this engine step by step in my next video. I'm working on it right now and hope to be done and released by xmas . It is actually very easy and inexpensive (no air brush) and took me about 1 hour to do this. Its basically weathering dyes (rust and grimy black) and black chalk. It does not need an overcoat or sealer and can still be handled without it coming off. Although it can be removed, it would take much longer than it took to put it on. I was really surprised how easy it was and how good it looks. You can use it on diesels and rolling stock as well. I do use the air brush also, mostly for rolling stock, and show that in the DVD as well. I didn't think I would have the guts either, but that changed fast after I did the first engine. I did four engines today, the mohawk, the 3rd rail 2-10-4 and two NS diesels, and didn't even think twice about it. Thats over 3Gs of engines. Rich. Rich.
