Update:
The job of chosing a recipient of the set will be in the hands of the Child Life Staff at Children's Hospital.

Here is a description of this group: The Therapeutic Recreation/Child Life program is staffed by specialists who help patients and families adjust and cope with the hospital or clinic setting, illness or injury and the treatments involved. Specialists have training in ways to use play, recreation and educational techniques to assist children and families.

The set may be given to an individual/ family or used by this staff. I am waiting to hear back on the particulars.

The RMDTCA will also be donating some tickets to the Rocky Mountain Toy Train Show being held in November. It is my plan to either present at the Hospital or at the show.

Thanks Charlie and Chris. I just arrived home from a W/E away. As soon as I check Paypal and connect with the METCA Treasurer we will get out a check to TFK in care of Nassau Hobby. It looks like it should be $70. Thanks so much to all who participated in the METCA auction.

Regards,
Bob

Bob,
Do we need to adjust the bar graph to account for this expense?

Yes we will have to do that. The amount will be $147.99 since we will have to buy one from a supplier that has it in stock.

We will count the METCA donation of $70.00 as of this post.

TOTAL DONATIONS TO DATE ----- $2155.00

We can now send out set seven. Hopefully we will still receive more donations and the next $148.00 goes to buy the TMCC command set for ambassador Chip Jackson's handicapped child recipient. I am not sure we will make enough more in donations to cover but we must provide one at all costs. I may make an extra donation myself to help on that if necessary. So we will get a command set no matter what. Whether we will reach the eight set mark is doubtful at this time

The original end date for donations was to be OCT 1, but I think that we will extend that to November 1. I will change the original post to so reflect.

I have found a TrainMaster Command set at North East Trains and have purchased it on my credit card. The project will have to reimburse me for $138.00 which was the cost if it can afford to.

The set is now being shopped directly to ambassador Chip jackson who should be all set now to accomodate his special needs child recipient.

Yes, and we have October to go for donations. Maybe we can squeeze out a set #8 before we are done.

Actually I think that we have done pretty well, given all the considerations. I would really have liked to see 10 sets myself but seven or eight is ok. That's some kids who will be made very happy at Christmas.

I am owed $138.00 by the project for the charge card purchase of a Trainmaster command set for ambassador Chip Jackson but have decided to forgo payment so all money can go toward an 8th set. In effect, I am donating the command set to the effort. I will so inform charlienassau of this.

As I figure it now, we have $98.00 to start toward an 8th set. I am pretty sure we will get another $50.00 soon.

So, with some pushing and banging we may just get to set 8. Right now we need
$208.00 more to reach that goal. I will try to make some more donations myself to help get us there. If anybody is thinking that they are going to donate, please do it as soon as possible and join me in pushing for set 8.

Accepting donations by credit card is a good idea.
I am not a TCA member but would anyone be able to set up a collection box at York, for Trains for Kids? or would that not be allowed?
Just a thought.

Charlie and I have already discussed such a possibility at the suggestion of pennsyfan but decided against it for this particular project. Charlie didn't think it would be a good idea at this time.

I plan on making a donation. It's nice I think that you are going to Dec.1. Alot of folks might not be around here until the holidays anyway. The Christmas season re-sparks alot of train people's interest and ending this early you might totally miss them.

I am very sure that we will make set #8. With October and November left for collecting donations I am confident that we can, in fact, make sets #9 and #10. We'll see how it goes in the next 2 months. We really should be able to collect enough for sets 9 and 10.

I really would like to start to add in specifics of various potential recipients as it makes things more personal when potential donors get a feel for the poor situations some of these kids are in. Also it is very surprising to see just how much a train set really means to these kids and their families. One cannot really get a feel for that without knowing specific cases. As ambassadors begin to describe their recipients, we will get a feel for this and see just how much a train set helps these kids and their families.

Yes we are progressing steadily along. I am sure that we will make set 9 and then be on the way to set 10. If the holiday spirit starts to kick in and our examples of recipients gets going we may even do better than the 10 sets. we'll see what happens. It will be interesting to follow this as time goes on.
