guess you guys read too fast.
The WHOLE POINT was that many of us have too @#)(I@#)($ trains and c. and are unable to move or sell them, even at a lower price on the OGR train list. Most are in boxes and near new unless otherwise stated.
WHY the bleep do folks NEED to PAY for buying xmas gifts when they have already, at home, fine gifts to give???

I would say I rest my case, but there is no case to rest. this is a no brainer, the kids get loved trains, their owners give trains to someone that (may) appreciate them.

This is NOT a different thread. Its a response to its gotta be NEW....... or are there too many dealers on the list..... one NEVER knows where the trains have come from...?????

I now understand your point. It was not clear to me what you meant. Another member also suggested what you are suggesting, and I reponded that we are now committed to a plan to give out Lionel NYC Flyer sets with expansion packages just exactly we did last year. The time for this type of suggestion was really on the first topic of weeks ago when ideas were being discussed.

Perhaps if you could put together a set somewhat the equal of the sets we are giving you could volunteer to be an ambassador and make your presentation. The set would have to include an operating car and some of the features of the expansion sets ( uncouple track, etc. ) as well as track and transformer.

Let me know your thoughts at my email robertconiglio@live.com.

Any person who can put together a new set somewhat equivalent to what we are planning to give away can certainly do so and be an ambassador. Let me know.

Respectfully,
Bob C.

Ah HAH see you are in GROTON CT. I was there quite a few yrs ago, at the Sub School, having enjoyed (?) the trips down in the 'water tower'- the 125 ft tall test diving tank. Is it still there?

L.Larsen.

Always glad to meet a submariner. We owe you guys a lot.

Basically you can look up the NYC flyer set and expansion pack in the Lionel catalog and then make a set up with simliar features. Included would be:

Locomotive and tender ( whistle , smoke , sound system, headlight )

A few cars ( five ) and a caboose

An operating car and an operating searchlight car

A transformer

Track ( straight and curved )

An uncouple track

Let me know so we can make you an ambassador.

Thanks,
Bob C.

Thanks bob, I will eyeball things here. Then find that catalog. My hint was for you to post a detailed list so any others that plan to cull items from their "overstock" can be very close to your factory stuff.

Anyhoo, Gimmee couple weeks on this, certainly any donation would be done here in the Grand Rapids MI area, I already have an organization which I have donated to in the past, an innercity all encompassing church/hall for neighborhood to use, classes, et al.

The more I think of this the better it sounds, and I M sure I know WHO they will use as their resource person!!!! But wife says I need that anyway....

Lars

PS Is the diving tower still there, and base too?
Folks may know the entire Orlando area Navy Training Center was levelled and made the entire thing into a New Town, its awesome so for you that trained there dont shed a tear....just move there!!!!

Who is we? Who has all these trains to give? Here is my point;"If it ain't broke don't fix it! This program works; It worked last year and it will work this year! People can write a check and send it in and feel good about knowing that it is going to somthing good very simple. As far as too many dealers there is 1 dealer not making big money off this and one person working his butt off to put this together!!

I am sure you and other people have alot of nice stuff but unless they are COMPLETE SETS boxes of this and that won't work! If you want to sell your stuff E-Bay it. If you wan't to give it away donate it to a local church or TOY'S FOR TOTS would be more than happy to take the stuff off you hands! I was an ambassador last year and again this year the family that got my set last year did not have anything as far as trains so when they got a set it was complete with track transformer ECT. This is also a thread about good will lets keep the x#*&xx?><0x and BLEEPS out of it!

Thank you Chris for that input. Basically I agree. But I am hard pressed to refuse an individual who might be able to produce and present one more viable set. As long as the person making up the set is an ambassador, I don't see where we'll have too much problem here. As you said, this is a project for little kids and making them happy is all that counts.

Be very certain that I will repel anything which would threaten the workings of the basic project.

And any sets will have to have the items described above so we have some uniformity.

Respectfully,
Bob C.

Right now, based upon pledges, we are fairly sure of hitting the $1500.00 mark at which pooint we can buy the 5 sets we set out for. More donations would be appreciated however. We would really like to do 10 sets if possible.

Thank you BuddyRock. I will put you down as #2 in the Flight B ambassador list.
Your family's help was very much appreciated last time. I am hoping that we have enough donations for a Flight B and to give out 10 sets. We will be able to give out 5 for sure.

Bob C, God bless you for coordinating this! My check will be sent shortly.

Having said this, I also see a lot of merit in Lars' suggestion. Speaking for myself, I for one certainly have some cars, track, maybe even an engine, all new, unused, and in the original boxes, that I would gladly donate to help put together a "set". I'll bet there are others besides Lars and myself who feel this way. I wish it could somehow be utilized.

The problem, as I see it, is having someone coordinate this so that a set is assembled with all the necessary items; you know, engine, cars, track, transformer, even the wires, just like a new complete set.

Just my thoughts, not intended in any way to detract or derail the wonderful efforts of Bob C and company.

In Lar's case he is trying to put together a whole set by himself and if he succeeds he will be ambassador for that set. Things will work that way but to assemble sets from donations of hardware from different members is simply beyond the scope of this project. We only have me and charlienassau with bob Snyder as advisor staffing this thing.

You can also trust me that if we started to try to assemble sets on the project level the cooordination required would be too great at this time for me.

I do feel that if a member can assemble an equivalent set that he wants to give away as ambassador under our project he can then do that.

To do what you suggest might yield more sets but the effort is beyond us at this time. And we would need one or two volunteers just to receive the donated hardware and to assemble sets from it. Then, say, if nobody has a transformer to give one would have to be bought, etc.

Respectfully,
Bob C.

Yes, TIME.
I earlier realized that this TFK scenario started quite early, had no idea why, since summer has not left. And having put my44c. worth in text, I realized HEY Wot the heck M I thinking of XmAS NOW for, when today Lake Michigan at Holland was 71deg water and air....

SO sez me, fella, you got the goods, you have 3.5 months to get your (my) act together. WHAT is the RUSH on all this? A year or two ago the same thing happened....THEN the photos of the proud presenters showed up on the OGR list......
I was a tad sorry to see em, it said a lot to me about this whole process.

Hence, as I, and now others seem to agree, will proceed with my gifted set on my own, without the need to hustle bustle and rush just so I can have my NAME in print? Or pic shown in the preXmas edition of the Blueberry Times Weekly???

So count me in, but not in a heated rush. If it gets in print here, fine, and a copy will be sent if it does. Believe that a pair of even manual turnouts is necessary for true play value, so I may include that also.

L.

PS Nearly every living adult knows of some place/family/church/etc that has a need for some toys for kids ages 8-11 or so. There is NO lack of this in todays world. If U wanna make up a set, it may take an easy week of missing a TV show a nite. Then you can decide if U need to spend any cash on filling it out a bit. And HEY, I bet chew have a early building somewhere in a corner that would LOVE to accompany the set!

Cheers (early Cheers that is!) and I may have to change that last line of my name follow up yet!.....

Thank you trainman. We can use the donation and much appreciate it.

Bob C.

It appears that we will have enough for five sets as originally envisioned. We would if possible like to do more than 5 sets, however.

I think that Charlie will shortly be able to order up the expansion sets and we can start sending the sets to ambassadors.

BOB: I like that visual aid.

I do know that we have enough more donations coming which will allow us to reach the 5 set mark probably by Monday or Tuesday.

Perhaps you would consider updating the graph as we go. That would be interesting and informative.

I think that we will definitely go for the 5 sets. whether we get enough for more; that remains to be seen.

So far we have 18 donors, but about $900.00 of our total came from only three donors. So we need more of the $25.00 contributions and even $10.00 ones would be good if we got enough.

We'll just have to see how it goes as time passes. But we will have sets out to the first 5 ( FLIGHT A )ambassadors as soon as possible.
