Has anyone compared the older tube track RCS with that of Fastrack - my question is are the 4-wires from the controller basically wired to similar locations? I will be attempting to change the tube track RCS with that of Fastrack and I assume I will simply need to figure out which wires go to ground and power respectively.

Let me state clearly that I don't know. I have posted a link below to the Olsen's Library but the info there is minimal. Furthermore, I'm not clear about what you are swapping with what.

First, are you sure you have the old RCS sections, which do not contain a central magnet; as opposed to UCS or 6019 types that do? There is a sidebar on the link that says that the controllers for all three types are the same. If accurate, that may help some.

I believe that I read somewhere (can't find a reference) that the UCS and the FasTrack remote control section are pretty much the same, but I don't know that for sure. Perhaps if you go to the Lionel website you can find a pictorial that would allow a comparison with the link.

Some of the standard reference books might help, such as the Complete Service Manual for Lionel Trains by K-line or one of Greenberg's similar volumes.

Sorry, that's the best I can do on short notice.

Short answer to your ?: Yes.

Long answer:
The following, will save me having to scan & post...thanks to Olsentoys.

is the page containing the following links for *.PDF (Adobe/Fox-It) files.

Description of operation for all.

UCS, RCS, 1019 diagram & bottom view.

6019 bottom view, & controller exploded view.
(This page may be the most useful to you.)

UCS, RCS, 1019 top view.
(also posted by wolverine49 above.)

Parts list for all & '50's MSRP for parts.

The FasTrack remote section operates in the same manner as the UCS, and is electrically identical. Any of the controllers will work w/the FasTrack section, using any of the above diagrams.
Match up the controller to the FasTrack section using the diagram for the UCS (or 6019) section.
They both will accomplish the same identical operation of all equipment.
I have used all of the above diagrams, track sections, & controllers, (along w/some others) & can verify that they all work.

HTH!

Great, thanks for your help. I have purchased a newer model 497 coaling station that comes with the tube-rail operating track. I wish to convert to Fastrack so the tracks looks the same as the rest of my layout, and because I don't have the room to add the 5" conversion sections.
